TJ Hunt’s Dream RAM Build

If you’re under 30 and into drifting or exotics, you’re likely familiar with TJ Hunt. The Southern California racer and car builder has been creating automotive content for nearly a decade. Famous for tuner cars, fans have clamored for truck videos for years. This week, TJ gave them a healthy dose of Diesel

differential cooling cover

TJ and his team of mechanics surprised fellow racer and long-time friend of the channel, Grant Anderson, by overhauling his 2012 RAM 3500 dually with a bevy of Banks parts including Ram-Air intake systemMonster-Ram with Grid Heater UpgradeBoost Tube UpgradeMAP Sensor Relocation KitRam-Air differential cover and new iDash Data Pro mounted in an iDash Stealth Pod

00:02 This is Grant. Grant and I have become best friends over the last 5 years because we travel the world together to go racing and drifting. He recently got a 2012 Dodge 3500 DY to tow his brand new 40ft enclosed trailer. His truck is great, but it definitely needs a lot of

00:16 work for the amount of towing that he’s going to be doing. So, I was able to convince him to drive cross country from Connecticut to compete in a drift competition with me here in California. But what he doesn’t know is the real reason why I wanted him to come here is

00:28 so that I could surprise him with a complete dream build overhaul for his new Dodge to become the ultimate tow vehicle. So here’s the plan. Grant’s been staying with me at my house for the last few days and after the race, he dropped his trailer off at my shop. I

00:41 left my house early this morning to head to the shop and Grant’s going to be following behind me in the next hour or two. He’s planning to drive back to Connecticut today with his truck. So he’s going to come to the shop and do a little truck prep before his 3,000mi

00:53 drive home. When he shows up, we’re gonna open the gate, surprise him with everything, and tell him that his stay in California is going to be a few more days. All right, Dylan’s gonna stuff himself all the way in these bushes. I’m going to stuff myself in these bushes.

01:06 He’s going to roll up through here. When Grant comes through right here, Dylan’s completely hidden. We’re going to be completely hidden. This should work. This should work. Ready? Good morning from beautiful San Diego. Got back in late last night. Went to TJ’s shop, dropped off the trailer, see

01:24 how much we can get done today cuz I’m trying to hit the road as soon as possible. Here come see what kind of trouble we can get into. Maybe TJ will let me drive his GT3 RS or whatever it’s called. Stop. Surprise. Come on. Surprise. Surprise. Crack. It’s a dream build.

02:09 Crack. It’s a dream build. I’m usually pretty smart. I can’t walk as hell. DJ, now you see why I wanted you to come and stay here the whole week? I just told my camera I was leaving tomorrow morning. Nope. Oh my. Here’s everything that your truck needs that it doesn’t have for a

02:30 full overhaul to make this the best truck we possibly can make it. Oh, I love you guys so much. Thank you, Tuan. Let’s go, baby. Thank you, Teach. What the hell, dude? It’s a lot to do and we have 3 days to do it. You guys are building my truck for me. You’re part of this one, brother.

02:51 Wait, no. I’ve watched these videos before. You are the first one. I get that is going to help do your own dream build. I get to leave and go enjoy the beach. Working on trucks suck. So, we’re going to use all the manpower we got. Dang it, dude. H. And this officially

03:10 starts dream build number five, and we have a lot of parts. Now, a lot of this stuff came from Throttle, and they are the part sponsor for this video. We have things from American Racing wheels to tow bags for the car to increase the driving capability while towing. A

03:24 complete new front and rear brake setup, new headlights, tail lights, chicken lights, and mirror lights. And on top of that, Bank stepped in and sent parts specifically for Grant’s engine that’s going to help performance and horsepower. But we’re going to get into

03:35 all these parts in more detail later in the video. But before we get started, Grant just drove this truck over 3,000 miles to get here, and it shows. He’s got everything from bugs to dirt to grime to oil, you name it. So, we’re going to take all of our Meguiire’s

03:48 products and give this thing a full wash to reset the truck before working on it. Later in this video, Meguiers is going to come down in person and help us do a paint correction. But, as we were washing it, we noticed that the front grill of the car was plasti dipped, and

03:60 it also unveiled a few more things around the car that we’re going to be fixing later. And now that the truck is washed up and looking clean, let’s pull it in the shop and see if we can even fit it. That’s very rear heavy. Listen to it. What? Dude. Okay. The last time TJ and I

04:25 put a truck on the lift, it was his other truck and it went the truck off the lift. It was It wasn’t that high off, but the truck the whole truck. You’re getting it. Okay. Look at the whole car. We should double check the bolts on the bottom of that lift. Make sure they’re torqued

04:54 down all the way. Well, this truck will show if they’re torqued down or not. Holy. Now, this is definitely not the most common way to remove a wheel and tire from a truck, but if this is any foresight onto what’s to come of how much effort this truck is going to take,

05:08 buckle up. I also want to say shout out to Julian for being here. He’s the face that you guys don’t know that you’re seeing in this video, and he came in specifically just to help us with Grant’s truck because it’s going to be a lot of work, which you guys will see

05:20 throughout this video. Okay, so look at this. This these tires were perfect before I drove here. Look at the Look at the lugs. See how they’re like this? Oh, yeah. They’re like wavy. It’s because the shocks are shot. Oh, the shocks are shot because the shocks no longer have

05:32 the shocks. So, they’re shot. Oh. Oh, that makes sense. Throttle. We need some shocks. All right. Now, you me It’s really nice having three very large men do this because if it were me, are you kidding me? Y’all are like 61 and above. Who’s the tallest? Grant I think.

06:01 Let’s see. Let’s see. Let’s see. Let’s see. Let’s see. Standing up straight is hilarious. Look at that warriors. Look at that land mass. Look at these. I would stand there. It’s like a cruise sh No, I would stand there for scale, but that’s a bad meme. That’s a bad

06:15 meme. Now that the wheels are off the truck, we’re going to start designating everyone into teams. Because this car is so big. Sorry, I said car. Everyone gets mad. Because this truck is so big, we’re going to split up into teams. Dylan and Julian are going to focus on the rear

06:29 brakes first. Now, because this is a DY, there’s this. So, I love it. That’s perfect. What is this? It’s just That’s your hub. That’s your hub, but it’s a captured rotor. So, that’s on the inside, but the rotor’s here. And then we have this, which is like an external hub beyond the rotor

06:48 and the drum housing. Because of geometry and science, that’s the way it’s supposed to be. So Dylan and Julian are going to start disassembling the whole entire rear brake assembly so we can put the new setup on. Meanwhile, Grant and I are going to jump to the engine bay because I know so much about

07:03 diesels and actually just learned 30 seconds ago that diesels don’t have a throttle body. They have an injection pump. Injection pump because that’s the way diesels work. Duh. Now that TJ’s making me work on my own truck for my dream build, I figured it’d be easiest to start off with the Banks Ram

07:22 Air intake and intercooler piping. Good thing we’re putting the new Banks intake on because this hose clamp was broken in half. Oh my god. Whoops. You want to see a little comparison, Anthony? Yeah, sure. All right. Give me one second. I would say that’s a little

07:44 bit nicer. It’s a we It’s a little bit bigger, too. Okay. Jump. The Bank’s boost tube kit increases the flow area up to 65% over the stock boost tubes with Bank’s huge 3 and 1/2 in boost tubes. The stock only consists of 3-in plastic cold side tube and a 2.75 in metal hotside tube. In

08:06 short, with this, we’re going to get an increase in size and flow over stock. We’re going to get greater cooling capacity and lower EGTs. And to top it all off, this works with the stock intercooler, or if Grant ever decides to upgrade to an aftermarket intercooler,

08:19 this will also work. This is an awesome product that I’m stoked to have on his car. All right, me and my teammate Calvin are putting the Bank’s Ram air intakes together. This thing is I’ve never seen a filter this big. Have you? You better be really careful when you

08:30 install air intake filters in this shop because we know what happened with mine. What happened with you? Cut to the clip. My nose coming out. It’s worse. What happened with yours? It might not look the same after we’re done with it. Let me just say that. My god. Yeah. Perfect. So, to put this new

08:53 Bank’s airbox in, we have to swap out these rubber grommets that have threaded holes in order to bolt this into the engine bag. This Bank’s Ram Air intake outflows the stock one up to 50% and reduces exhaust gas temps. The exclusive 4 and 1/2 in bellows to accommodate

09:06 engine movement and enclosed housing keeps out hot power robbing engine air. All this is going to reduce exhaust gas temps and sy black smoke as well as getting more cool air inside the car, producing more power and better miles per gallon. And with a pretty easy

09:21 install job and a couple clamps, the Ram Air intake looks super clean. And what doesn’t look clean is this stock diff cover, which is why we have the new Banks Ram Air diff cover kit. This looks like a shield from the olden days. We have a beautiful diff cover from Banks

09:37 that’s going on this that helps with uh I guess less aation of the oil and wicking on top of the pinion and ring gear when they contact. And it’s got cooling fins on it. And then to help us not make a mess when we do the brakes, we’re going to drain the fluid. So I’m

09:49 going to pop this off. Drain the diff fluid. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Oh, no. No. No. No. No. I’m sorry. I wasn’t listening. Dude, you’re such a dick. I wasn’t listening. Dude, this diff fluid is disgusting.

10:20 Grant. Yeah. Okay. Yep. Yep. Yep. You got it. Yeah. I’m going to give it to you. At least the gasket came off. And now it’s time to install the Ram Air differential cover. And this is one of their most popular products that I think we all see on the back of trucks and for

10:32 a lot of great reasons. But in short, this diff cover is just going to cool the differential fluid so much better than OEM. And a couple other great features about this is they redesigned the fill plug. The fill plug was changed to a 20° angle, so it’s easier to actually put in oil. It comes with a

10:47 magnetic drain plug. It has directional fluid guides, has a way better O-ring seal, and there’s 26 internal absorber fins that offer 120 square in of surface area to transfer the heat to the external fans without disrupting fluid flow. In short, this modification is a

11:01 no-brainer for all truck owners. Let me preface this. We’re coming back and Grant goes, “Yeah, the grade wasn’t too bad. I was just afraid to hit the brakes every time.” So, let’s see why. Oh. Oh, Oh my god, dude. It’s flaking. Oh my god. I’m worried about breaking down.

11:22 Oh my god, dude. That’s It’s crazy. It just turned to rust. That’s You know what’s crazy? How were you breaking before this? Very carefully, dude. I drove 4,000 miles like that here for you. This a cease, too. Well, see, now it was all worth it. Good thing. Told you the trip would be worth it. Saving

11:39 my life. Brackets, too. Seriously, this I’ve never seen a brake pad fall apart in half. Yeah, this is impressive. How long is your trailer? My trailer is 40 ft long and weighs under the GVW DOT. Definitely doesn’t exceed the illegal limit. That’s all we’ll say about that.

11:56 Now, all this was made possible by our friends over at Throttle. They were able to help source all these parts minus everything from banks. Two forces colliding together made this possible. And if you guys go to th.com and whether you want to pick up some of their merch

12:09 or you want to pick up some of their parts, you guys can use promo code chord and you have a chance to win their R35 they’re giving away and $20,000 cash. Hey, who doesn’t love a GTR? I love GTRS, baby. I love GTRS. I love GTRS. And while you guys go shop at Throttle, we’re going to get back to

12:28 this install. And now with the diff cover installed, we’re going to keep the momentum in the rear of the truck and move on to the brakes. And this is something that I have never seen in the 13 years of modifying cars or automobiles. To be honest, I don’t even know how Grant made it 3,000 mi while

12:44 towing everything he had in the back of that trailer. This is pure danger. Now, one thing we didn’t account for was how many stock parts needed to be replaced, which throughout this video, we find a bunch of stuff from axle seals to new rear brake lines that are needed, new

12:58 front brake lines that are needed, new shocks that are needed. Now, Grant was very quick to send me all the invoices and receipts of the things that his truck needed, which thank you, Grant. We are going to move on to the lights. One thing I wish my truck had that it doesn’t is chicken lights. Don’t

13:16 look at you. Oh my god, I I love chicken legs. So much stuff. I love them. I think they’re sick. Especially like old big semiis. Those are so cool. And one thing that I love about semis, dude, if you go on my phone, I literally have like albums of just trucks that we’ve

13:32 I’ve taken photos of as we traveled all the East Coast places. And it’s like super nice chicken lights and just lights everywhere. So, we have some sweet lights. Grant, sauce me a light. Do you know what the coolest part about these is? the fact that I get to do it.

13:46 I’ll show you. Look at these. Thank you. Icy static. These are going to look good. The coolest part about it is I thought we were going to have to drop the headliner to put these in. No, they have an adapter goose to plug into where the factory bulb plugged into. So, check

14:01 this out. Oh, not anymore. There you go. Ooh, look at that unseen paint for 10 years. Look at that. Now, all of the lighting features of this truck came from throttle.com because they have a bunch of options. And for Grant’s truck, we went with the Rexom lights. They have

14:17 things from chicken lights to tail lights to headlights to side markers to mirror lights. If you need lights, they got them. And once installed, man, I’m glad we did it because they look amazing. Look at this fingernail. Dude, I slammed it in my trailer. What do you want me to do? How many booms did

14:33 I get on the boom meter? Five fingernail or the the the corner light? The mirror. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Look at how good they look. Are they on? Yeah. Look. Oh, nice. That’s sick. I like that chicken. That looks good, Grand. It looks really nice. Chicken

15:18 jockey. Chicken. Chicken jockey looking. Since we have the lighting or since we’re on a lighting kick, we figured we’d swap out the headlights. That’s But in order to do that, we have to pull the grill off and we’re pulling the bumper off. Right, T? This is my channel.

15:34 Nope. That would get us demonetized. I kissed it. In this day and age, we all live on the internet, which means all of us at one point in time have dealt with our personal information getting sold on the internet and end up getting spam emails, spam calls, spam texts, all the

15:47 above. But now there is a solution, and it’s called Delete Me. Delete Me is a sponsor of today’s video, and let me explain to you why we all need them. Our information is being sold off to a million different companies when we’re just using the internet. And that’s what

15:59 data brokers are. Data brokers get information from places that we give information and then they sell it off. This could come from things like driver’s license, LLC’s, or even our social media where we give our full name, our sex, our date of birth. All that information is being sent out. But

16:15 Delete Me helps keep your personal information private, which is why I trust them. Delete Me is a hands-free subscription service that will remove your personal information that’s being sold online. You can get a privacy report in just 7 days, and they will also remove all your personal

16:29 information like your phone and your address. Delete Me monitors sites and repeats removal as needed. And they even send you a personal report like I’m showing on screen that gives you all the protection that they are doing to keep you as safe as possible. And right now

16:42 you guys can use my code to get 20% off their consumer plan. Or you can head to the link on screen and then enter the code at checkout and you can get that 20% off. There’s no reason why your information should be available to everyone and being bought and sold. So

16:57 join Delete Me. Use my code and stay safe. Thank you Delete Me for sponsoring today’s video. Now, let’s get back to it. Now, we’re going to do the headlights. But to do the headlights, the girl has to come off. Oh, you know what? It’s Grant’s voice, but it’s TJ’s face. Was a 12.

17:21 TJ The 10 is right here. 10 is right here. Set me up. That’s my favorite noise in the world. Oh. Oh. Oh, hell yeah. Oh my god. Too bad you’re aing bad boy with all your dirt on your arm and those big old triceps. He’s bad to the Oh, he’s bad to the bone. Sweet. Now with

17:45 that off, headlight is very accessible. Dude, it looks like a truck from hell. Look at this thing. The kill dozer. We’re trying to figure out what these wires go to, so we figured we’d throw them on a good old 18vt battery to see what’s going on. Oh, kind of sick. Kind of cool. I like

18:03 them. Ford Raptor. No. Grant’s Dodge. Dodge Ram Raptor. Sorry. Free anybody that wants it. Piece of junk. I mean, someone should buy this. It’s really cool. The frame is tweaked. Shut up, TJ. Just joking. I I told TJ how much I hated this front bumper before as soon as I bought the truck. I

18:30 was trying to trade people on marketplace for this. It did not work. So, thank you TJ for getting me a front bumper. One of the things that was absolutely crucial on this build was getting rid of Grant’s Zombie Land front bumper. It was the worst part of the truck. Literally the worst part of the

18:48 truck. Nothing like a good old clean OEM chrome bumper. Um, so final factory lip, which is pretty cool. So with that, we have a new front bumper, a new lip, and new frame attachment points with tow hooks on it. Bumper brackets. I suppose you could call it that. It’s called, but

19:10 I don’t know what I’m talking. And now with the MadMax bumper removed, we can put together the new front bumper. But this comes with a few different pieces. So we have to put together the bumper bracket. We have to put together the lower lip assembly. We had to use all of

19:22 our bolts and nuts hardware to make everything seamless. Once that was all on, we were able to slide the new chrome front bumper, which is so much of a better look. And once that was finally in, we can move on to the new headlights, baby. And now with the whole front end coming

19:47 together and the horrible plasti dip off the grill, it literally looks like a brand new truck. This was probably the best visual change this truck will ever see. And I’m so glad that we did it. Shout out to Throttle for helping us source all these parts to get it all

19:59 together. Oh, dude, that million times better. Oh, with the chicky lights. Don’t they look good? Oh, yeah. Way better. Wow, dude. With the spike lug nuts, it’s going to go hard. I ordered new lug nuts. This thing’s 10x better. Way better. Okay, so Dylan bumper is not bolted on the bottom, but

20:20 it looks 10 million times better. The fascia and all. I’m a big white and chrome fan. Little bug guard on this thing, and I think it’d be perfect. I think it looks works so good. Oh, Peter, I saw it at the auto parts store. We should get you chrome bullet 50 cal antenna. Oh, yeah. And you know what

20:37 else we could do? the fake bullet holes down the side of the truck. Yes, dude. Please. These are cool. And some no fear eyes on the back window, guys. And uh or the Dodge pissing on the Ford. Pissing on the Ford. Yeah. And a Cumin sticker at a 45° angle with a stack. Let’s go, dude. Yeah. Hell yeah.

20:55 Grant. Okay. And now pan back to the chrome grill bumper. And then pan in my face. Pan my face. 3 hours later. Finally got the grid heater off so we can put the upgraded thanks grid heater and ram air elbow in. This is going to be absolutely disgusting. So I want to see what it looks like.

21:16 Oh my god, look at how bad that is. Holy. So check this out, Anthony. So this nut right here gets rusty and will rust off and fall onto the engine and explode. So Banks, check this out. They sell an upgraded heater. So basically what it does is it heats up the engine

21:32 so it starts easier when it’s cold out. Um, so this is the upgraded one. This is the factory one. And all the air going through the entire engine has to go through this little grid. Wa. So now doesn’t seem efficient. No. With the Banks upgraded kit, it goes through this

21:47 huge opening comparatively to that. So it’ll help with air flow, more power, more reliable. Should be pretty good. Now we’re going to move on to installing my favorite parts from Banks. And this is the Monster Ram. The reason why we’re going to be installing this because the

22:00 grid heater on the stock setup is a really big reliability issue. There is a nut on the inside of the grid that can rust off and fall into the engine and the whole engine explodes. So, with this system, we’re not only going to get more liability, we’re going to get more

22:12 power. And the grid is replaced with this big opening, which is so much better than the factory setup. And this coil and this coil. This one’s going to be a lot of work. So, let’s get started. And moving on to my favorite piece from Banks. It’s the Monster Ram intake and

22:29 grid heater upgrade. What this does is improve the throttle response and fuel economy by eliminating air flow restrictions. It prevents severe engine damage by replacing the failureprone factory grid heater with the bank’s high- flow billet intake plate. And to

22:43 sweeten the deal, the Monster Ram is the only 50-state emissions compliant RAM intake elbow. Now, it does take some time to swap everything off of the OEM parts because we are going to be utilizing some things. And on top of this, they also sent us the MAP sensor

22:56 relocation kit. That’s going to help it stay a little bit more cleaner, which is going to extend the sensor service interval, reduce suit and oil buildup and keep the Cumins engine running efficiently for longer. All right, the Monster Ram is done. Looks way better

23:10 than the original piece. Now, it’s time for us to throw this back in. Monster Ram. The only option for your Dodge Ram is Monster Ram. Thanks. Monster Ram, the only Ram I trust with my Ram. The only monster. The only ram that dodges my ram dodge is my monster ram. The only monster I

23:34 allowed to ram me. Monster ram by Banks. Huh? What? When you go to put this thing on, you’re going to have to get that on there. Make sure that you get in the hole the first try so you don’t tear the seal. And then you’re gonna get that scanner right there. You’re gonna slip

24:02 that in and it’s gonna be right here. And you’re going to put the retaining and put a couple screws on it. It’s going to look great. He’s got it. He’s got it. Oh, TJ. TJ. You got it, buddy. That’s like the le That’s like the position that yields the least amount of strength,

24:17 though. You got to It’s the height of the truck. Okay. A little higher. I can lower it down for you. No, it’d be better if it was higher. Want me to raise it up for up for you? It’s all lifted the whole girl. Yeah. A big greasy girl. I got a lot of shakage here. Yeah. You just going

24:38 to get Yeah. Here. I got your back, dog. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thank you. Oh my god. Just wanted to make sure. And that’s how you lose at the end of a shot. Oh, Grant. Grant, I appreciate here. Nice to meet you, TJ. I don’t want to do it. I thought about it. I thought

24:56 about it and I didn’t want to do it. Just do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Nice to meet you. Just shake my hand. Shake my hand. Shake my hand. I know someone that will do it. Shake my hand. Ian will do it. Ian. Nice to meet you, Ian. It’s really zero chance of success.

25:22 I m it TJ help. TJ help. Now it’s a liability. It’s on the ground. Someone’s going to slip and fall. And now that the axle shafts are officially installed in the car, we can finally button up the rear brake assembly system. This is something his car really needed. So, I’m stoked we got

25:40 it done. And with our new brake lines we got in, he is going to be a safe truck on the road. And now with that done, let’s focus on the suspension. When I was with Grant last week, we were driving from Northern California to Southern California. And when I was in it, it was very bouncy. And Grant was

25:55 like, “Uh, yeah, it’s just a little bit bouncy. You know, there’s a lot of weight on the back of the truck. That’s just how it is.” I thought that was a little bit odd. Come to find out that when we came here, put the car on the rack. These shocks are completely blown

26:06 out and have more rust on it than shock on it. So, did a last minute upgrade and got some Billilstein shocks that are actually, you would think these are heavy. This probably weighs like not even five pounds, which is super cool. So, we’re gonna be replacing his shocks

26:22 because this is a tow rig and it needs to be comfortable and be easy to drive. And with these ones, definitely wasn’t. So, let’s go ahead and chuck these in. And because Grant’s car looks like it drove cross country 148 million times, we’re going to call in a little extra

27:05 help today from Maguiars to help give a full paint correction and cut and polish. And to do that, I have Blake. Blake, this is like your fifth or fourth dream build where I’m like, I need an extra hand. So, while we are doing the rest of the car and getting it finished

27:18 in this time frame, Blake and Haime are going to jump on the car and give us a little extra hand. You’re welcome, Grant. All right, Blake. This truck obviously isn’t perfect. It’s a daily. It’s a tow vehicle. So, what products are we going to use that you think is

27:31 going to best suit this car? For sure. So, we’re going to hit it with a OneStep. It’s our solo product. It’s an all-in-one. and we’re hitting it with a dual action polisher of various different sizes to polish out the paint, get it looking at its best uh with just

27:45 a one-step product. So, why are we going to choose one step rather than doing like a traditional cut and polish? Just easier just to do it all in one because this isn’t already perfect, let’s say, or a show car. Yeah, there there’s a couple aspects here, but the product

27:56 just did very well. We did a test uh panel with it, and this product really brought the paint out. And since we’re not going for showc car perfect, we’re going for better. This product as an all-in-one just really hits the nail on the head. Cool. We’re going to move on to

28:14 something I’m really excited about and this is coming straight from Throttle. That is bags. I thought, man, it’s been a while since we’ve brought widebody and bags. I thought the DY is already kind of a widebody. Why don’t we slam it? Widebody bag king is back, ladies and gentlemen. I’m just kidding.

28:29 Unfortunately, this is bags but for towing. The idea behind this is when you are towing 20,000 lb, 10,000 lb, whatever it is, Grant will be able to inflate this bag to create a stiffer rear suspension to compensate for the weight load. We run something similar like this on our truck. And for Grant,

28:49 this is a really cool luxury to add on his car. So, apart from sawing the bags, Airlift actually has a compressor that will mount on the frame of the car. So, this is an outside external compressor that we will be able to mount, wire up to the bags. So, with this remote

29:06 control, Rand can hook up a trailer. Depending on how much weight he is, he can decide how much PSI to set in the bags from this remote and add air to his bags. On my car, I have a compressor, but I have to flip my switch and run a line from my compressor to my bags and

29:22 do it manually. With this, Grant will never need to get out of his car. This is probably the coolest thing. I think this is so rad. I don’t know how difficult this install is going to be. I haven’t done bags in a long time. The widebody bagging king has been off his

29:35 throne, but as of today, I’m back on top. I got you, doctor. Nope. You’re the doctor. Yes, you’re right. I’m the doctor. And I’m the right hand, dude. We’re back in your car. The widebody bag and king. The widebody bags king is back. Did you know that? You. Me? That’s

29:51 embarrassing. I’m just kidding. I think everything you do is amazing, TJ. embarrassing. I love you. I would never be mean to you. You said You said the E word. I started with a I. It’s not rusty, it’s crusty. That’s my favorite line. Grant’s the rusty king. All right. So, now we have to run the

30:14 power and ground to the compressor so that when we hit the button, it’ll fill up the bags. This goes from the battery, which is up front in the engine bay, all the way back to the compressor. And since this is a DY, we got a lot of wire. compressor is now mounted and the

30:27 wires are ran to the engine bay. Before we finish that up, Calvin just got back with Grant’s wheels and tires. Okay, so Grant’s car is a DY, which means it has four tires in the back. It has two sets on either side, and that’s just essentially to help with the weight

30:43 load. So, we wanted to do six of the same wheel and have the insides that you can’t see also be these new wheels. But the way the DY works, they have to keep the aluminum wheels because of the studs that are already there. And if we were to change it to do cool wheels and you

30:59 can’t see it, he’d have the gangster points. We’d have to change a whole bunch of stuff. And if he ever gets blown out somewhere and something breaks, I hope that never happens. Finding that exact thing is going to be a nightmare. We were sticking with the stock wheels on the inside, which don’t

31:15 look as cool, but we were still able to fit the Nitto Dura Grapplers, which are the crazy load rating tires. Damn, Grant, these look sick. Oh. Oh. Oh. Damn. Oh, that’s a hell. God damn, those look sick. That’s tough. Wow, that’s tough. Wow. Wow. That looks That with

31:37 the spike lug nuts is going to go so hard. I can’t wait here. Check it out. That makes this everything gets made up for it. TJ saying I’m going to get blown out on the side of the road. These American Racing wheels look super great. Speaking of great, really great is this

31:54 Banks product we’re about to install. This is an OBD2 plugin that goes straight to a gauge that Grant will have in his truck that tells him all the information that’s going on because Dodge doesn’t allow you to see anything. Tuan’s a little bit of a Oh, Grant, we can sit on the seat together. Hey

32:13 partner, I made a I made a room just for you. Let me tell you why this product is so cool. Because even I can do it. That’s why it’s so cool. And if TJ can do it, anybody can. Anybody can do it. OBD2 plug, one wire straight to this gauge, and you’re done. I’ll show you

32:30 guys this more in detail once we install it, but this product is really cool. The Dash Pro Powertrain information center is a micro computer that allows you to monitor and record what’s actually going on underneath your hood in real time. The compact device blows away the

32:43 capabilities of any OBD plug-in diagnostic device and offers more functionality than instruments five times the price. This is probably my favorite thing we’re putting on the truck because it’s going to give Grant the peace of mind of actually knowing what’s going on. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks,

32:58 Banks. We love you. We do love you so much. And now I’m going to be able to see my EGTs and my EGRs and my IATS and my AFRs. AFRS. No. Banks. Monster Ram. Monster Ram by Banks. I take Monster Rams up the press all the buttons now. Look at I learned that from TJ. Here,

33:24 get a shot of me coming from here going like your POV like POV or the gauge. You got to really back in. Got the compressor done, wiring all set. Now we have to put the bags in the back. But we have to remove the factory bump stop off the frame rail. I’m preemptively just going to heat up the

33:50 bolt so it comes out because the truck, as you guys know, is a little bit crusty. You’re You’re really pulling a hard bargain with the crusty, huh, dude? I got to stick with it. Let it be crust. I don’t even know what this is. Hey, dude. You read it. Well, it’s an EV It’s

34:07 an Eve screw dismounting device. Looks very high quality, but what it does is it heats up rusty, crusty bolts with a magnetic field, but it doesn’t melt anything else other than the bolt. It just gets the bolt hot. It’s crazy. Stick your finger in there, Ton. I’ve never used this tool before,

34:26 and we just bought it for Grant’s truck, and I have to absolutely recommend it to everybody because this just got off the rustiest, not crustiest, the rustiest bolts I’ve ever seen with ease, which definitely saved us a lot of time. Now, I feel like I’m dipping back in time

34:40 holding bags again, but I’ve never done bags for a truck, but it’s all theoretically the same thing. And without really any instructions online that we could really find anywhere for this splityear Dodge truck, we were pretty much able to figure it out. It consists of a bag with a plate on top

34:55 and on bottom, which will get bolted to the frame of the truck with essentially a Uband clamp. Don’t know the official name of it, but the clamp allows you to grab around the frame and bolt it all together. once you find the spot that it’s supposed to live. And while Grant

35:10 and I were mounting the bags and mounting the compressor, Dylan and Julian were still fighting all the rusty crusty front brakes. Oh, that was planned. Yeah, I was trying to kill Jo, dude. That is that is up. There’s not even rust here. It’s just missing. Time for one thing. I’m

35:36 really excited about. Look at this exhaust pipe. If that doesn’t scream America, I don’t know what does. This is a Magnaflow Capback exhaust. That’s a 5 in diameter. Ask me how I know. We’re going to be installing this on Grant’s truck because this stock exhaust is booty. That’s Calvin size.

35:57 We’re going TJ size. So, it’s time for us to do a little bit of an upgrade thanks to Magnaflow. Oh my gosh. I ain’t never seen exhaust like this before. And we’re about to put the bags in, but when the but the bag plate touches the stock exhaust. So, we’re hoping when we put in

36:12 this one, it clears it. But judging by the fact that it’s 2 in wider in diameter, it’s probably going to hit it, which means we’re going to have to probably modify the stock bracket a little bit. Nothing falls off. Can’t fix. Last piece of resistance and that is the

36:53 caliper going onto the rotor. I will say these look really great. Don’t mind the crusty crust, not rusty, crusty shocks. Built-in shocks look great. Whole front end assembly looks really good. Twuan, take it away, brother. And now that the brakes are assembled and we have the

37:09 exhaust bolted up, we’re going to go ahead and do a first start just to make sure everything is running smooth after everything that we’ve installed. Perfect amount of volume. Don’t rev it until we It sounds great. Rev it. Holy. Who is revving it? All right, relax. Jesus. Not a BRZ. Oh god. Now

37:42 that we have both bags installed, we’re going to work on the hose routing. Now, what’s really cool is we’re going to run a line to each bad from the compressor, which is right over here. But we’re going to run a backup airline, which is over here. And this comes with the kit.

37:58 So, if at any point the compressor breaks or a line fails or you can’t do it from your compressor, we can run this line with straighter valves on it and Grant can manually fill it up with a tire pump or any sort of like what you would use to fill your tire in your car.

38:13 Grant has the idea to do a bulkhead fitting by its license plate and the kit came with like a little bulkhead fitting. So if all goes as planned, we’ll run the lines to the bags and then also run little holes here. A little backup. Little backup. It’s got even got the caps with it. T sick. Perfect.

38:28 That’s super cool. So let’s see if the widebody bag king still remembers how to do airlines. All right, so we have the airlines all ran. Now we’re going to do the bulkhead fitting. We did a little test hole. So, the idea is that will go like Oh, well that’s the wrong size,

38:42 Grant. And it will come this way. And he’s going to have some little pointy boys out the back of his car. Little pointy boys. Try that out. But there’s Oh, that’s perfect. Oh, that’s a way to do it. Here we go. Look, they’re perfectly level, too. I was so nervous they weren’t going to be

39:01 level. Hold on. Hold on. Best part. Best part. Look at how legit that looks, TJ. Pretty cool. It’s because you have the wide body backing. That you are right. That is It’s all because of you. My best friend. Install done. Grant, show them the bees knees. You ready for this baby?

39:23 Hold on. The best is yet to come. This is how I know Grant wants to bag a car cuz he gets so excited. I had air ride when you were in middle school. Are you ready for this? Yeah. This is the best part. Wait, I need to hear you. That’s sick. So sick, dude. That’s sick.

39:40 This is so good. So, Anthony, I need one of those controller mounts that you have in your car for your phone. I want to put this on my dash. It’d be perfect. But so nice. Wireless. Everything’s hidden under the car. We did the shraider valves on the back, which we

39:55 showed before the memory card got full. And uh we’re all done. Bleed the brakes. Good to go. Right as we finish the bags, Dylan and Julian are bleeding the brakes. Once the brakes are bled, wheels and tires go on and then we’re done, baby. All right, we are getting to the

40:11 finish line here and we’re about to see the payoff of the wheels going back on the car. So, this is my first time seeing the Nitto Dura Grapplers. These are a highway terrain. So, these tires are actually specific to dealing with a lot of load. So, setups for doulies or

40:27 guys that are towing. This is what this tire is set up for. in school to have the Nitto family in involved in that because I actually I run Nittos on my truck, but I run a more like allterrain off-road looking tire that doesn’t necessarily look like this. And my tires

40:42 on my truck don’t have the load rating that these do. These ones are killer. So, this is new to me. I’ve never seen a way a DY works in the rear, but both wheels share the same studs. You just have like a crazy offset for the inside one. Damn, Grant. Look at that big brake

40:59 kit you got beyond those wheels. Kind of sick to see it like that on a truck. But here’s where it gets good. The rear wheel has such a good like little dish. So, this is a like a copy of what what you call them? They’re called Alcoas. They’re like if you guys see 18 wheelers

41:14 on the highway, you see they have big juicy aluminum wheels. They’re typically 22 1/2 in. TJ got me the standard size, which is perfect for towing. So, really excited. We could have changed wheel sizes and stuff, but then it just gets weird when you like really change the

41:28 setup for towing. This way, if anything ever happens, we can, you know, easily get it fixed and serviced. Dude, that looks so good. They look so damn good. I’m a big fan of chrome and white, and this looks grand. Oh, the chrome rear bumper, the chrome wheels, and the fact that we put on the

41:52 stock front bumper with the chrome grill. I mean, just look at how good the whole thing, dude. And the black lug nuts that TJ got me are going to look even better. No, I got him the chrome spikes. Where are they? Did you throw them away? Rant. Dude, I think they’ll look good. I really believe that. I

42:09 don’t know where they are. You got to ask Ian. You guys hid them? Couldn’t be mean. I I would have never done that. these. No, we’re using these. I found them. You me. That was your fault. Let me just humor me. Humor. I’ll humor you on the front wheels cuz you won’t really be able to tell on the back

42:36 wheels. I know. That’s why it’s like you don’t really see them. This is my vision. This is my vision. Yeah, that looks That looks sick. Are you kidding me? You barely even see it on the rear. It’s the front. And then when they’re all lined up, it’s going to look like bullets.

42:58 I can’t wait to see on the front. See the comments. How about we do one left side spikes, right side, we’ll just do the other one. Dylan, come on. It’s not the rear I’m worried about. It’s not the rear I’m worried about. Looks pretty good. I’m not going to lie. Look, I’ll tell you right now. When I

43:18 see a big old big old tractor trailer going down the road and it’s got Alcoas and spikes, I’m like, “Yeah, it’s just I think it looks pretty okay.” But I got I do have to see the fronts cuz it right now it’s kind of hidden. The front’s poked out a lot more. It’s the front that matters. So,

43:34 let’s do the front. Grab a front. Why not? It goes like this, dog. Dude, that is sick. TJ, that is sick. TJ, dude. Oh, are you you do you guys know he’s trolling me? You were troll TJ. You’re you’re There’s tears in your Dude, it’s sick. It’s kind of sick, dude.

44:01 Yes. I hate both of you. Are you Are you freaking kidding me? Are you freaking kidding me? Tough as Anthony, shut up. Oh, let me show him your face, dude. I don’t I think you need to take a step back. Yeah, DJ. All this step gangster. Holy dude. Dylan, dude, look at this. 100%

44:26 unadulterated thug ass. Yeah. What? I can’t smell cuz I like it. What the That thing’s so sick. You might kill a family of four with those things, but The technically the worst I’ve ever seen in my life. What was the last time you Death Race? Yeah. Have you ever seen the

44:44 movie Death Race? And now he can defend himself. It like Batman. Honest opinion. Honest opinion. Check out the frog. The spikes are The spikes are sick. For a moment, let me tell you at Target parking lot, some little kid like drops her Lego box like dropped their leg. Oh. Oh, no. I’ve dropped it.

45:11 You could like stick things on them, too. I would not. I’m a hot dog. Hot dog. And you’re hot dog. Where Where do I get a piece of You need to get the lug nuts, dude. When are you going to do that? Regular lug nuts. When are you going to get I’ll take another bite later.

45:37 All right, let me take my pizza back. Oh man. E. You know you got to suck the lugg nut off. Come on. You got it. Up. Up. Up. Up. Come on, J. You got this. Yep. Come on. Come on. Yep. Put your mean to it. Lightweight, baby. Almost. Almost. Let’s go stinker out. We let Grant have his way and we

46:07 allowed him to take off the spike lug nuts to run whatever lug nuts he purchased cuz he really didn’t like them. And we’re finally about to lower the car and see it sit on its own weight for the first time since we started this build 72 hours ago. But before we do that, got to do a little shake test.

46:26 Is the front good? The thing looks Oh. Oh yeah, it Oh, dude. The paint correction did a big difference. Wow, the cab lights look insane. No, it’s like reflecting on the hood for me. That’s a new truck, dude. The trailer. No, leave it here. No, take that off. So, we’re missing the center

46:56 cap, but we’ll get it tomorrow. God damn, it looks so good. Wow. Wow, dude. I’m so happy, TJ, that you chose factory size wheels and tires. And remember when we started peeling off the plaster dip on the grill and then you got the factory grill, the chrome is kill, dude. You can flip this truck

47:17 right now. Thanks TJ for the brand new DY. I don’t know actually who dented the tailgate but or the rear bumper. It was not me. I just bought the truck. Remember guys, the dies with the the third brake light in the middle. Thank you, buddy. I’m so happy. Kiss you. We’re not done yet. We still

47:36 got a few more things to do. Grant and I are going to go for a little drive to see all the labor. We’re going to see the fruits of our labor. We’ll get to that exhaust note, brother. The fruits of our labor. Grant was worried about this exhaust being too loud. What’s your thoughts?

47:54 Can’t even hear it. It sounds the same. Which is ideally what we wanted, as I said. So, Magnafl had two exhaust options. I had this one and a louder one. When you’re towing and you’re driving for 10 hours under heavy load, you don’t want to listen to a loud car.

48:06 You just don’t. So, it looks a lot nicer and replace that not rusty, but crusty exhaust. I love that. You love that. It was so rusty. Oh, it’s so much softer in here. It’s so dude. It’s unbelievable. When we drove it uh when we were in Northern California last week also,

48:25 you’re right. It was quite bumpy. Oh. Oh, it sounds good. Yeah, it sounds really good. And the exhaust brake sounds really good, too. Listen. Yeah, dude. Dude, I’m not hitting the brakes at all. That’s awesome. We rear end the Kia. Boom. And the detail from Megui’s too on the inside looks really

48:52 good, you guys. Hard to see that on camera, but this Grant has stuff everywhere. butt wipes in the back seat. Truthfully, do you feel how much softer? I know it’s hard to show on camera, but just these little bumps. The truck before was boom boom boom boom boom boom

49:07 boom. And now it just rides nice. Just cruises, dude. Just cruises. Look, I’ll run up here. Here. You know what? Oh my god. I thought you Here we go. See how much softer it is? It’s very nice. It’s very nice. Yeah, it’s super good. Take a curb or two. You know, you

49:23 could take a lot of curbs with these Nitto tires. It’s pretty incredible, isn’t it? Now, look, we’ve built a lot of different builds on this channel. Over the last 10 years, we’ve probably done over 50 cars, and honestly, only two or three of those have been trucks. And

49:38 even at that extent, we’ve never really messed with them on the channel. So, when it came to doing Grant’s truck, we really wanted to take all of the gross parts off of his car and just refurbish it with new, shiny, updated looking things rather than really overmodifying

49:51 this truck because we don’t want to lose its sole purpose. And you know what? with the help of Throttle and Banks. I think we absolutely did a great job on this truck and I hope you guys like it. And if you do, let me know down below in the comment section below and maybe

50:04 we’ll do a couple more truck builds on this channel. At the end of the day, as dream build number five, I’m stoked with this one. First drive out of the way. I think this is our fifth dream build that we have done on this channel and I’m really enjoying them. Yes, I see you guys in

50:38 the comments. You should do this person. You should do this person. You should do this person. Hold your horses, everyone. We’re doing our best. We have a million things going on. If I had 40 of me and I could do 40 at one time, we would. But until then, we’re going to do them as

50:49 fast as we can given everything else. Grant, what’s your review? I’m so You were the first person that had to work on his own dream build, but we needed to help with it. We needed to help with the truck. Kind of bologoney. I’m just kidding. I I think you guys can tell how grateful I am that TJ pulled

51:05 this together. Like I said, I talked to him every day and he knew every single thing I wanted to do to this truck. So, I couldn’t be happier. I don’t think there’s anything we did that I wouldn’t have done myself. So, I’m so grateful for you, TJ. I love you so much. I’m so

51:20 happy to consider you a friend and good things will come your way one day. I I do mean it though. I I’m so grateful, dude. This is so sick. It’s literally a different truck. It is. I’m just super stoked that we fixed this terrible front end. It went from death race to grandpa spec real quick and I

51:41 couldn’t be happier. Junk we took off. This is just some of the parts that aren’t on his car anymore. Oh, that’s my BMW M flag. How much you want to bet? You bought a BMW flat torque, dude. You just outed yourself out. Once you see it in YouTube, you’ll be like, “Okay, no,

51:58 I’ve seen it on TikTok.” No, don’t worry about it. People put You’ll see it soon enough. BMW like a white flag up there or like you’re ach duties from TJ. We should get you a flag that says I’m a Get it and I’ll hang it in the garage. Yeah, you know, maybe I will. Maybe I will. Maybe I

52:14 will. No, Grant, you don’t need that. Grant has enough glory flags. I’m going to hang it in his garage. Not for me, for him. Yep. Well, now is the fun part cuz we get to see this unit attach a definitely gross weight legal non DOT license required trailer onto the back

52:35 of this DY. And Grant’s about to start his drive home to Connecticut. It’s not for hire. It’s technically an RV. It’s completely 100% legal. Department of Transportation. I swear. There’s definitely a bed and a bathroom in that trailer. Anything’s a bathroom if you

52:48 try hard enough to eat. This is true. Ask me how I know. I’ve Anony’s hand. No, I’m kidding. Thank you guys so much for watching this episode. We have a uh I’ll save it. We have some good stuff coming up. Stay posted. Thank you so much for watching. Peace out and keep moving forward. Bye-bye.

53:30 Bye, Dan.
