Banks Power is working on a project to build a high-performance Duramax engine, aiming for 900 horsepower without internal engine upgrades. The team is focusing on improving airflow and exhaust systems to achieve this goal. The progress of the project will be documented in a new video series called “Killing a Duramax.”
Gale Banks unboxes a high-performance radiator from Ron Davis Racing. This custom radiator is designed to cool the supercharged twin-turbo 7.1L Duramax engine being built for a monster truck. The radiator will be rigorously tested to ensure optimal cooling performance under extreme conditions. Banks Power will also be using Heatshield Products to insulate the turbocharger and exhaust system, further improving engine efficiency and performance.
Turn your truck into a family bonding experience and performance powerhouse with Banks. Brian Bland transformed his GMC Duramax into a learning lab for his son, installing Banks upgrades together while enjoying detailed installation videos. From Derringer tuners to Ram-Air Differential Covers, they’ve boosted performance and created lasting memories. Discover how Banks can supercharge your truck and strengthen your family bond.
Banks Power is on the verge of a 1,000 horsepower milestone with a stock Duramax L5P engine. A custom Comp Cams camshaft is the key to unlocking this incredible power potential. Stay tuned for the next episode of Killing A Duramax to witness this engine’s transformation.

We’re using Turbosmart wastegates to bypass the blower. The way it works is there is a diaphragm with a spring, so you use boost pressure to overcome the spring pressure and lift the valve off the seat. Putting valve position indicators on the heads will let the team know how far off the seat the valve is at any time. Of course, this can be modulated to vary the boost needed.
Gale has used Turbosmart Wastegates on projects before and was the subject of an R&D article. If Gale uses it, you know it’s a product you can trust.
It’s really like Christmas in this episode because Gale gets a new knife from Milwaukee Tool. On the next episode, an $8,000 Endress+Hauser Coriolis Fuel Flow Meter. Gale explains how it works and why it’ll be a game-changer for product development. Keyword: Brake-Specific Fuel Consumption. Watch to learn more about what that is.
