Waking up a Ford 7.3L gasser
Steven Marimberga’s 2023 Ford Super Duty 7.3L has the power that he wanted, but it just didn’t have the urgency to use it. A search for performance products for his new gas-powered truck led him to the iDash SuperGauge and PedalMonster, something he thought previously unlikely. “I really like Banks products, but I’ve always known them for being diesel specialists. The 7.3L is a good engine and it has a lot of horsepower and torque, but the throttle was just too laggy. I came across the PedalMonster and was curious what it would do for my gasser. I was also interested in the iDash, and since I didn’t get the trailer assist I thought that it would be the ideal place to mount it. The funny thing is before I bought the iDash I wanted to know how something like it would look there, so I used a Cannon lens cover as a stand-in. It just proved that it was going to be awesome.”
As for the PedalMonster, Steven says that the results are amazing. “I’m only running it on CITY level 5, and it’s enough for me. It just woke the truck up. And it’s really strange trying to tell someone about it because the response is that they could just press the pedal down more. I could press the pedal down, but it has a delay before the payout. The throttle would also have a ramp-up period. With the PedalMonsterthe response is instantaneous. The shifts are more crisp than stock, and I used the Speed Trim setting to massage the response below 10 mph. I’ve been telling people about the PedalMonster wherever I can.”
“On the iDash SuperGauge, I have it set up with the PedalMonster control, RPM (don’t get me started on the tach on the dashboard that doesn’t display actual numbers), Horsepower ECU, and Torque ECU. I’m going on a trip where I’ll be towing uphill, and I’m really curious as to what the ECU is commanding. I haven’t even scratched the surface of what the iDash can do, and that is so awesome!”
