Only Trusted Parts For His Truck
Jim Powell talked to us about his 2024 Duramax last month, but he also wanted to share more about his GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax that he bought new in 2007. Finding this truck seemed like destiny. “I was in a Subway in Beijing, China, and found it on the internet way out near Plymouth Rock, MA. A construction company had ordered it and went out of business, which was my win. Its factory green color matches my old Chevy, a 1950s beast of a truck. It was the first truck that I ever drove, and this one just brought back a lot of memories. I knew that I had to have it. It’s a nice, simple truck compared to the new trucks out there. It’s like new with just 65,000 miles on the odometer. I’ve used Amsoil in it since it was new, and I’ve used the same corrosion-proofing that I have since 1968. There’s zero rust on this one, and it spends the wintertime in a nice warm Chicago garage.”
This truck is Jim’s baby, and he only uses parts from brands he trusts. And, you guessed it—Banks is at the top of that list. Jim has installed a Ram-Air Intake, a Ram-Air Differential Cover, and a Monster Exhaust System. “It’s now a peppy truck with Banks breathing freely, running smooth, and sounding beefy,” he explains with a smile. “I just got 17.7 MPG over 340 in-town miles during 20-30°F temperatures, and before the Banks intake and exhaust, I got around 14-15 MPG. Let’s talk about highway miles. Before I would get 17 MPG at best, and that was with me logging in every tank fill. Now I’ve gotten 21.7 MPG over 3 long highway trips and 2000 miles.”
What’s next on Jim’s list of upgrades? “I’m looking at adding a Ram-Air Transmission Pan to my new other truck, a 2024 Sierra 3500 Duramax. That’ll be added to my already-installed Ram-Air Differential Cover, CoolRunner Oil Pan, and iDash SuperGauge. For me, it’s Banks all the way!”
