iDash Records Valuable Driver Data
Jeff Van, Lead Tech and Fabricator at SoCal Super Trucks, is an avid autocross junkie. The Banks iDash records the data from his autocross runs “I’ve been doing autocross for about two and a half years now. I’m still kind of new to it, but I’ve put in enough to equal four or five years’ worth in that time.” Jeff is one of few in his class that’s not racing a dedicated track car, but in his first season, he took the top spot!
When asked about his choice of car, a 2015 EcoBoost turbo Mustang, Jeff says, “It’s kind of surprising. She’s running only about 310 hp to the wheels with very light mods, but she’s my daily driver. My old daily was just horrible. When the trans went out I took the $3,000 it would have cost to fix it and get a newer car. I needed to get something that got pretty good mileage and was handled well. While walking through a used car lot I ran across this Mustang and immediately thought it was the one. Funny thing—I HATE orange! The color really makes the car, though.”
For Jeff, the iDash DataMonster is an ideal tool for autocross thanks to its data logging feature. “It’s actually quite helpful. The car is mostly stock. So I don’t have to look at fuel trims unless there’s a fatal error somewhere with the engine. At that point, I’d be able to look back at the data and see what went bad and where. Then do what I need to d to prevent any future catastrophes. I also correspond the logs with my track data so it shows me valuable info like how much throttle I’m giving and where and when I am able to give it more. I’ve only scratched the surface of what this amazing instrument is capable of.” Watch Jeff take a few laps with the iDash recording the data.
