Aussie Grid Heater Failure

It’s bad enough that RAMs are thousands of dollars more in Australia, but when you have to spend $10k on Cummins engine repair on your three-year-old truck, the sting is that much worse. Luckily for this Pro Mac Automotive customer in Melbourne, the notorious grid heater bolt was found before it fell off and destroyed a cylinder.

“One of our customers came in to have a Monster-Ram installed in his 2021 RAM,” explains Pro Mac owner Donny McMartin. “He wanted some insurance against the grid heater bolt. He figured he was probably safe because his truck only had 102,000 km (64,000 miles). And, he lives in Melbourne which doesn’t get very cold so his grid heater wasn’t used that much. Here comes the crazy part… After we pulled the stock elbow off, we did the jiggle test on the grid heater cable. The whole thing was loose! We looked at each other and said, ‘Wow, this is a 5th Gen with a broken heater!’ And, it’s a warm weather truck. So, those rumors about the this only happening to 4th gen trucks in cold climates are false. We have proof right here.”

Donny and his team completed the installation and took the owner for a test drive. The improvement in throttle response was immediately noticeable. The Monster-Ram prevented engine failure and cured its asthma. Talk about killing two birds with one stone…
