Towing Company Trusts Banks
While towing a trailer home from his father’s house Jon Clapper’s carrier bearing on the driver’s side of his RAM failed, leaving only his brake caliper keeping the wheel on. Having something like that happen to his low-mileage 2020 Ram 2500 made him question what else is a weak link on his truck. “To add insult to injury, it was a couple of thousand bucks added to everything to get my truck and that trailer home. My neighbor is a brilliant mechanic, and he helped me put everything back together. I have only 60,000 miles on my truck, and I’ve had to put two new carrier bearings on it, new rotors, and new calipers, and it made me question what else could go wrong. That’s when I came across the grid heater bolt problem. I called my mechanic buddy to help me out with the installation and his response was, ‘Ahh, finally getting rid of that heater grip bolt problem, huh?’ He told me that it was a great idea because he didn’t want me sucking the bolt into my engine.”
“There are a few options available to prevent the failure, but I know Banks products because I’ve used them in the past, so I’m not screwing around with anything else. The Monster-Ram was the only choice. I watched Gale’s video showing the enormous amount of air the new intake allows and that I can eliminate that soot-clogged heater. When we took it off, I couldn’t believe how messy that dang thing was. You know, most of the videos make it look like it takes several hours to install, but we banged it out in just two. Everything fit just like it was supposed to, no problems at all. I drove up the dirt road from his garage, and I almost crashed into his gate because the throttle response was so much snappier. The powerband even feels longer! Every once in a while I’ll be towing my 30′ trailer and someone wants to pass me. I just squeeze on the pedal and leave them behind… staring at my tail lights.”
“I depend on this truck! Tow companies can’t go off-road, so the county calls me. I go out and pick up abandoned vehicles in the middle of nowhere. Can you imagine what kind of problems it would be to come and get me if I broke down out there? I feel so much better getting the bolt problem out of the equation. I know mechanical things break, like the carrier bearings, but something simple that could destroy my engine and leave me stranded, and to me, that’s unmanageable.”
