Ideal Access To Our Duramax | BANKS BUILT 26

When Jeffrey Transou shared his concept art with us in Episode 4, we immediately fell in love with the way the hood and bed opened opposite each other for ideal access. But because this is unique and there are no off-the-shelf parts to make your hood open backward, the guys design custom hinges, brackets, and futuristic-looking hood support to turn Jeffrey’s concept into a reality. Remember if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.

The hinge system fabricated by Erik uses a self-locking proponent for safety while gaining ideal access.

Erik finishes up fabricating the hinge system for the outward opening hood. When designing it, they used geometry to figure out the addition of a self-locking proponent. A lot goes into not only ideal access but safe access. The hinges need to clear the wheels and fenders while maintaining rigidity. The Banks team mocks everything up before sending off to the metal workers.

Stay tuned while we convert our 1966 Chevy C-20 into a one-of-a-kind supercharged Duramax l5P diesel-powered beast. Episodes released weekly as we work on the build.
