Fan Focus: Dave Grimm

My name is Dave Grimm, I drive a 2017 L5P Duramax and I live in Carmichaels, PA.

My wife and I had planned on getting a dog for the kids and surprise them with it, and I have to tell you… I named that dog Banks. I did, I named the dog Banks. The name Banks had lot to do with fact that I have a Duramax truck with Banks parts on it. One night we were watching TV and thinking of names for our new Labrador Retriever, then Banks popped into my head. My wife thought about it and really liked it.

This was my first diesel truck because I wanted to experience the diesel life. I’ve always had gas trucks before this, but a diesel was something that I had always wanted. I was also interested in the torque. I have small utility trailer, nothing big. I haul around ATV’s, gravel or yard equipment, but nothing major like a gooseneck travel trailer. I am, however, working on getting a travel trailer down the road for vacation and things like that.

I had very little experience with Banks. I did some research, and before I went and purchased my stuff, I joined the Banks Derringer group on Facebook to get more info on the Banks parts that had I heard about. I wanted to know what the Derringer was all about. Eventually, I ended up getting the Derringer and Ram-Air, and I noticed a huge difference with the cold air intake and the Derringer in Level 6. I don’t think I could ever go back to stock again. I even tried to challenge myself to go stock for a week… I made to like two days before I said, “Screw this I’m going to back to Level 6,” and cranked the Derringer up to full power.

At this point, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to gas because it’s a completely different driving experience. I was actually born and raised a Dodge boy, with Dakota and Rams. With every single one them I had transmission and rear end issues and I just got tired of it, so I decided to try GM. My father-in-law is GM guy and convinced me to get a Tahoe for my wife. We just love that thing to death, so I decide to go GM and get a truck with a Duramax in 2017. The L5P Duramax truck is great, but I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a little more power. The Derringer really woke up the truck.
