Banks Bought a 2012 RAM 3500
Due to the extensive amount of test instrumentation and fitment work needed, Banks has purchased a 2012 RAM 3500 for the development of the intercooler for 2010-2012 RAM trucks fitted with the Cummins 6.7L engine. Banks engineers were quick to start disassembly on portions of the truck for fitment of the new intercooler prototype, as well as beginning to install the test sensor suite. Once a prototype has been ok’d, on-road testing will begin. The team will measure air density, airflow, and other improvements in real-world environments, not just on the dyno.
As seen above, the team has 3D printed complete end tanks to ensure the proposed size and dimensions will actually fit in the truck. The team never relies solely on 3D scans. Once they know it fits with no clearance issues, casting aluminum end tanks can begin. It may be a long time coming, but the benefits will be worth the wait.
