7.3L Turbo Upgrades Transforms Truck

Jacob McBride has one of the more reliable diesel trucks out there, the Ford 7.3L Power Stroke. His dependable 2001 F-250 is a daily driver, clocking in at over 350,000 miles on the odometer. And with his utility bed, he takes his tools to his various job sites. “This truck runs great, and I really depend on it. I drive it every day, and as a millwright, I can be called almost anywhere. I just returned from a job that took me 11 hours away, and she handled it just fine.”

Jacob doesn’t have many upgrades on his truck, but he recently installed the Banks Turbine Housing Upgrade. “I had already had the Compressor Wheel Upgrade and the BigHead Actuator, so I wanted to complete the turbo upgrade.” Gale does a great job of explaining just what to expect from all of the upgrades done to Jacob’s turbo. “There’s a different tone in the exhaust, and you can really hear the turbo when you get up there in the RPMs. The acceleration is different, and once I reach highway speeds, I have to be careful because it keeps pulling. I have two friends who have basically the same trucks as me, and they each have done something different. One has the Banks compressor wheel upgrade only, and the other one has the AutoMind programmer. It’s pretty cool because you can really feel the difference between each of them. I’m looking at adding the Ram-Air Intake to help it breathe and get even more out of that upgraded turbo.”
