Unsupercharged Speed: The GMC Syclone Tears Up the Salt Flats

The GMC Syclone, a seemingly ordinary pickup truck, hid a monstrous secret. Banks Power originally envisioned a full-size, twin-turbo monster for the project, but fate (and GM politics) intervened. Instead, they got their hands on a GMC S-15 mini-truck with a naturally aspirated V6.

But Banks wasn’t one to be deterred. Through ingenious engineering, they devised a way to “supercharge” the engine naturally, using ice water and clever air intake to achieve incredible results. The Syclone went on to smash five-speed records, including an FIA World Speed Record of 194 MPH, proving that power comes in many forms.
