PedalMonster Review: 2022 F-350 Power Stroke Throttle Upgrade

Adventure John Outdoors gives an honest 2-month PedalMonster 2022 F-350 review of his experience using the PedalMonster on his 2022 F-350 Power Stroke with a 355 rear-end. “I ain’t going to lie to you, I’ve been keeping it in SPORT mode. SPORT mode makes this thing into a beast! Goes from tractor to rocket! I keep it all the way up. I hardly ever used TRACK mode. It’s a lot more responsive, but I like SPORT the best.”

00:00 are you unhappy with your throttle response out of the hole mid-range top end if there’s room for improvement I have the solution I’m Gail Banks what happens when an engine guy or even better a turbo guy does a throttle booster the new pedal monster is the throttle booster with a brain it’s the

00:20 most intelligent and safest throttle sensitivity controller available here’s the reality we spend most of our time coming off the line merging with a trailer out back maneuvering in traffic at part throttle or working some cool stretch of Mountain Road till now you’ve

00:39 been the victim of some group at the factory and their predetermined pedal profile here’s what’s cool pedal monster allows you to precisely select just where the power comes in and at what rate today’s cars and trucks are dri by wire when you push down the pedal it

00:57 sends a signal to the computer to open the throttle the problem with drive by wire is that manufacturers often build in what we call sponge pedal looking for that last tenth of a percent of fuel economy in doing so they soften up the response and take away 50% of the fun

01:17 pedal monster gets rid of that lag oh yeah oh this is fun let me explain first you select the transmission type stick or automatic IC then you choose your driving mode City sport or track Each of which have 10 pedal profiles here’s how it works the pedal monster intercepts

01:41 signals between the pedal and the vehicle’s computer then it modifies those signals based on the mode and pedal profile you choose you know there are quite a few throttle boosters on the market and almost all of them have something in common they’re not safe the biggest safety issue with modules like

01:59 these is that if something goes wrong you’re instantly left with no pedal it’s like you took the pedal and threw it out the window well hell I guess we don’t need this pedal this is where pedal monster is different it utilizes the same active safety Health monitoring circuitry that

02:22 we use in all our inline tuners all pedal sensors send two or more signals to the vehicle’s computer one rising and one falling this redundancy is done for safety pedal monster is constantly looking at these signals if it sees something out of spec it Returns the

02:41 pedal to stock another fatal flaw with other throttle boosters is that they draw current to power the module by tapping into the pedal circuit itself in many vehicles like mopark cars and trucks for example that 5vt circuit doesn’t have enough electrical current

02:59 overhead to safely power any additional circuitry apparently some of our competitors have a problem with this so we’ve got the check engine light on the truck just said engine power reduced what do we do to this thing bro what did you do I didn’t do anything oh maybe this pedal Commander wasn’t a

03:20 good idea we solve this by supplying this guy an OBD cable powering pedal monster via 12 volts from the OBD port where there’s ample current capacity since we’re on the OBD port and capable of communicating with the vehicle’s computer we added vehicle speed sensing

03:41 giving us adjustable lows speeed trim and on stick shifts smoother clutch engagement and selected gear sensing gives us reverse safety these are important safety features no other throttle device has this is called speed based trim so you can select kind of that that response and the level of

04:02 response under 10 m hour so I don’t want to CH have to disable the system every time I’m loading the back of the the bed up or towing a trailer I can select this set it and forget it under 10 mph stock throttle response and because pedal monster knows what gear you’re in it

04:21 automatically returns to stock pedal sensitivity when you’re in Reverse reverse is not something you want to get too spicy in modules like pedal Commander have no clue what speed you’re at or what gear you’re in so they’re just as Twitchy in Reverse as they are

04:38 in Drive easy a 2-year-old could do this and when you combine it with an ID Dash data monster or ID Dash super gauge you can control the pedal monster right from the gauge and if you’re wondering will this affect my warranty if that’s a concern when you remove the pedal

04:56 monster it doesn’t leave a footprint we’ve got them for cars we’ve got them for trucks we’ve got them for naturally aspirated supercharged and turbocharged and it’ll put a smile on your face I swear it’s so responsive now I barely even touch it if this sounds fun

05:16 hit us up at bankspower.com or reach out to one of our hundreds of installing dealers this is City what sport

John does a great job of showing what is happening during his drive with the level changes, combining his real-world expressions with a split screen of the Banks mobile app showing the difference between commanded throttle and what the PedalMonster gives you. “How do I like it? Even when I have my camper in the back, that thing does a fantastic job. It just feels better having this kind of throttle response, andt he throttle response is amazing! The PedalMonster is amazing. I 100% suggest you get it!”

00:13 Okay guys, so somebody was paying attention and watched my power banks video on this diesel and they wanted to know what it if I do a test with the Sport mode and track mode. Now, I ain’t going to lie to you. I’ve been keeping it in sport mode. Sport mode makes this thing into a beast. Goes

00:42 from a tractor to a rocket. I love I love sport mode and I keep it all the way cranked up now. I didn’t when I first got it. When I first got it, I barely ever moved that thing up, but uh kept it on city mode. City mode’s good, I guess. So this is the uh 67 with the 355 rear end in and this 22F 350

01:04 and and just the what factory mode you know it’s got like a stall there in the beginning. Someone said that it’s because you know any anything they can do to get just a little bit more miles per gallon uh reported out for these trucks. So take your foot off the pedal.

01:22 I’m going to put it in stock mode. It’s It’s I mean it’s kind of like drive I used to have my CDLs. It’s kind of like driving a big truck in city mode. I mean it’s good. Don’t get me wrong. City mode’s real good. Let me pull out here. So I’m going to the stop sign. Let me look both ways. Hold on.

01:42 Seat belts on. That’s good. I’m going pull out. Oh, it’s so much nicer. So that’s like it’s I’m already at 50. We get down here. I’m going to put it in sport mode. Wide open. We’ll take off at this. I’m going to turn right down here. We’ll take off at this one in sport mode and see what I can

02:14 get. These one, these uh these 67 liters, they ain’t messing around. They are not messing around. All right, here we go. I don’t want to spin it out. Jesus. This is city mode. I mean, this is sport mode. 50 mph. All right, let’s go down here and go to track mode. I don’t know if we’re going to get no

02:39 ticket. Uh, I don’t I I hardly ever use track mode. Track mode’s a lot more responsive, but it’s it’s I don’t know. I really like sport mode. All right, so we’ll pull on out. We’re going to stop. Put this thing in track mode. I’m burning the tires. Yeah, it’s 50 mph. It was actually spinning the

03:13 tires. Yeah. So, for it to spin these tires, these are uh I think they’re equivalent to 32s, 32 and a halfs. They’re all terrain. Uh they’re Cooper Discover AT3s. Pretty good tire. Fad boy took off though. It really did take off. Okay. How do I like the power banks? I

03:38 love the power banks. Even when I’m have my camper, my slide in truck camper in the back, that thing right there, it it just does a fantastic job like like going in and out of the curbs. I I dude, I don’t know. It just feels better having that this power bank, having this

03:56 throttle response. The throttle response is amazing with this power bank. And if you don’t if you get in your truck and you forget to turn on the the app, it ain’t that big a deal cuz it’s still going to do it. I don’t know how it does it, but it still does it. It does it

04:09 wherever you lift it, I guess, cuz when I turn it on, it shows that it’s on the the uh sport mode. I got this clipped up here. I take it and let you see it. Plus, I need to be driving, not really moving the camera around. Um maybe I’ll Oh, let’s try this out. I’m going to go in here and try to

04:30 record this. Okay. Okay. Here we go. We’ll start recording it. So, I’m going to take my foot off. I’m going to go into this is city mode. So you can kind of see in city mode the response on the left where it says foot. That right there is just basically the throttle positioning of my

04:49 foot. And you can see the response over here. Let me go down here to this is stock. So stock same thing but Oh yeah that’s fitable. Now we’re going to go over here to sport mode. Oh yeah. And let’s take all go to track mode. Okay, here we go. Oh man. Um, you control the like how much by

05:22 this right here. Can’t have you put on the pedal though. Okay, you put on the pedal at all. It doesn’t It won’t let you move anything. Okay, maybe we’ll do that test one more time. I don’t have a good mount in this truck for the camera. In my F-150, I had a mount where everything is like there,

05:42 you know, where I needed it at. I haven’t done that in this truck here yet. All right, we’re going to take off down here in sport mode and I’m going to tell you when we hit 50 mph. Now, obviously I got to turn out, but that car is always sitting there. Now, American V. That’s a Chevrolet. Oh, it’s

06:11 simple. All right, let’s pull on out here. Oh man. Yeah, that wasn’t even that was 50 mph before I even looked down. Got really good throttle response. Oh, that was in track mode. Holy crap. Yep, that was track mode. Slow down. I ain’t got no ticket. All right, I’m get I’m out here on a

06:51 highway that’s got a couple more trip like a few more cars on it. I need to get back down to the speed limit. It’s 55. It’s 55. Okay, so this thing, this pedal monster is amazing. 100% suggest you get it. Let’s get lost.
