550 Horsepower – Killing a Duramax Pt 2
Now that the engine is running like a champ, it’s time to turn it up to see where the stock turbo maxes out while throttling at 550 horsepower. Along the way, Gale Banks explains how he’ll monitor every aspect of the air intake system.
We’re going to take you through every system responsible for making air density starting with the cold air intake system, which starts with the Banks Big-Ass Air Filter.

We pump it up to 3,000 RPM and throttle it to 550 horsepower. Then, take an in-depth look at what’s happening with the air intake system. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube page to know when we Kill the Duramax.
At 550 horsepower there is a -0.2% loss of density and a 1% loss of ambient air density through the air intake proving that we’ve already maxxed out the turbocharger. The turbine drive pressure is way up and we’re at 135,000 RPM of it’s design limit.
