iDash Info Trifecta
Griffin Steinfeld is no automotive slouch. Always choosing a garage over a Toys-R-Us when a kid, Griffin became one of the youngest NASCAR drivers at the age of 17. Since then, the 28-year-old has worked on various project vehicles, consulted, and created his own YouTube channel. Obsessed with data as a tool to make his racers quicker, Griffin saw the Banks iDash as something he needed for his 1956 Chevrolet Apache 3100 pickup build. “I run the truck a lot”, he began. “When my head is under the hood it makes it really convenient to check the readings and keep my eye on key temps and pressures.”
“With an engine as specialized as this, it’s really useful for looking at vitals such as oil pressure, so I don’t have to keep running around and looking at the dashboard. Having it in the firewall is a huge time-saver. With the iDash DataMonster in the dash, I can datalog so that I can see everything later, but when I need to see it right then the twin SuperGauge setup really is the money!”
One would think that the Chevy Apache would get a more modern LS engine upgrade, but Griffin’s choice for his retro-rocket is a hand-built, all-billet (from intake to pan) twin-turbo Hemi. “Being that it’s basically a pro mod 521 cubic inch engine, this rare build is water-jacketed, so I can drive it on the street. It has Twin 98mm Gen 2 Precision Engineering turbos, 16 injectors and can run on E85 and methanol, and will turn well over 10,000 rpm producing 4,500 hp.” You know… your typical cruiser, grocery-getter, and drag truck.
A state-of-the-art street-driven pro-mod deserves state-of-the-art data acquisition. Griffin’s three iDash DataMonsters fit the bill perfectly.
