Early Review of 2020-2022 L5P Intake System
Banks is testing the new 2020-2022 Duramax L5P Ram-Air Intake system out in the field, and one of our Test Pilots snuck out a review on a Duramax forum. Todd wrote, “I have to say this really makes a nice difference in the drive. The truck has more pick-up-and-go feeling. I can get up to speed with less effort. There is no drone at any RPM or cruising speeds.”
Banks’ patented Air Mass Control Module allowed the engineers to design past the limitation that causes check engine lights, thereby creating the largest intake system physically possible. Without this patented module, the intake tube’s size is limited to the stock tube’s diameter. Any larger and the MAF sensor sets a check engine light. That’s why S&B, AFE, and others must retain a stock tube diameter. Banks engineers are no longer constrained by the stock tube diameter.
And, the new Ram-Air’s smooth organic shape eliminates all restrictions and turbulence to the turbo. In addition to unrivaled airflow, Banks’ Big-Ass filter has greater dust-holding ability than any competitor. While the other guys are clogged with dirt, causing air restriction, the Ram-Air filter is still flowing better than stock. The large surface area increases the time between filter cleanings. The huge inlet tapers down increasing air density even more into the turbo.
