Allison Transmission Assembly | BANKS BUILT 17

Watch the assembly of a custom-built Allison transmission destined for our supercharged Duramax diesel-powered ’66 Chevy pickup. ATS Diesel’s Clint Cannon walks us through each step of the process. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to upgrade an already stout Allison 1000 transmission, this episode is for you.

If you recall, we stopped by ATS Diesel in episode 10 to talk about building a transmission to handle 1,200 horsepower. Clint explains that all of the clutch pack amounts have been increased.

One of the things the Allison transmission comes with that’s nice is a pump. Later, after finding a shallow pan, everything gets torqued down and the assembly has the pressure checked. Each gauge on the dyno’s screen shows every clutch pack to make sure the main line pressure matches the clutch pack.

“I’m excited about this build. It’s going to be really exciting the way this valve body has come out, the way the transmission will come out. I can’t wait to dyno this thing and get it to you guys. I love the diesel industry and more so I love seeing companies like ours working together.”

We are equally excited to be working with the experts at ATS. On the next episode of Banks Built, we design the perfect engine bay. Furthermore, you can subscribe to our YouTube page to keep up with Banks Built.
