PedalMonster Safety Features Make RAM 3500 Smarter & Safer

RAM 3500 PedalMonster installed showing throttle control

“The one thing that I like about the Banks PedalMonster,” says Matt Harmening from Diesel Legiance with excitement, “is all of the engineering and safety that goes into it.” Matt installed a PedalMonster in his ’22 RAM 3500 and the result was not only improved performance, but more importantly, the safety features that set it apart from anything on the market. “They have a reverse override, which means no matter what setting you’re in going forward, as soon as you put it in reverse, it takes you back to stock. That way, you’re not backing up with a very touchy throttle.”

00:08 what’s up everybody welcome back to the channel So today we’re going to be doing a small performance upgrade on my 2022 Ram 3500 Mega Cab Doley diesel truck And what we’re going to be doing today is increasing our throttle response And we’re going to be doing that by

00:24 installing the Banks Pedal Monster So without further ado let’s jump in and let’s get it done Okay so we just opened it up and this is basically what it’s going to look like It comes nicely packaged with some foam packaging here Pop that out and some additional plug-andplay harnesses Now

00:44 when you open it up you’re going to get this instruction guide here which there are multiple ways to install this based on which kit you purchased because you could purchase this as a standalone pedal monster which is what I did which basically means you can control it using

00:58 your phone through the app But if you happen to upgrade to their Daringer or their eye dash data monster those are just basically custom gauges that you can add to your dash for more information on your truck which I don’t really want So I didn’t feel the need to

01:13 spend extra money on those extra gauges As a standalone installation guide it’s pretty simple You’re going to have this harness right here plug into your OBD2 port right here And then you have this harness that comes off the back there which is going to plug in to this little

01:28 harness just like this And then this little harness here is going to plug in to the back of the pedal monster And then these two harnesses coming off the pedal monster are going to plug in at the top of your throttle All you have to do is unplug the stock harnesses and

01:46 plug these in So should be pretty simple and easy So that’s pretty much about it So let’s go out to the truck real quick and let’s start getting this done Okay so now we’re up front and if you follow your pedal up here onto the left there’s going to be a black harness but there’s

01:60 a little button on the back Press that button and then unplug this black harness Just like that Then you’re going to take the harness coming off the pedal monster that doesn’t have any red clips or anything like that You’re taking a smaller one and we need to plug that into this

02:19 one Just like that And make sure it clicks Okay Then the other harness coming off the pedal monster with the red tab Slide that back on top of the original bracket from your pedal And once you push it all the way in press that red button down That locks it into place Okay Okay So the next thing you

02:36 want to do is take the harness that comes with the OBD2 plug on the opposite side You’re going to plug in this little mini split harness right here to that harness right there Then you want to plug this into your OBD2 port Now you don’t have to take the dash apart I just

02:54 took mine apart to show you I tend to run a splitter because on a dual splitter like this I can still have an extra OBD2 plug while still having another plug that could be accessed from the bottom over here in case you want to plug in a scanner or something like that So again you don’t have to run a

03:12 splitter if you don’t want to You could just plug in your Banks Pedal Monster to your OBD2 port I just wanted to show you that I’m running a splitter so that I don’t have to unplug this anytime I need to plug in a scanner to my OBD2 port So all you want to do now is plug this into

03:29 your OBD2 port and then plug this end right here to one of the slots here on your Pedal Monster Once you do that zip tie everything out of the way clean everything up and you should be ready at that point to download the Banks Pedal Monster app on your phone And then you

03:46 can connect your phone to the pedal monster so that you can control the settings So let me start doing that real quick and we’ll be right back with an update Okay so I just went ahead and put my information into the phone Start auto detect It’s basically just running a

04:07 calibration on my vehicle through my OBD2 port Reverse auto detect is done Dismiss Start calibration It says “Depress your pedal Wide open throttle Make sure your pedal is fully released Depress it again Fully release Finish We’re done Now again on the back of the pedal monster here

04:37 there’s two ports You can plug this harness in to either side It’ll work on either side so it doesn’t matter The other side is for if you happen to have like the eye dash or data monster or something like that which are primarily gauges that would mount over here on

04:52 your dash somewhere I don’t have them so I’m not worried about it But if we come here now you can basically control what you want the pedal monster to do So obviously clicking on track is going to be the fastest Okay stock would be this one here So stock is turned off but once I

05:11 click on one of these it activates it So that’s city So you could go up or down but once you go up or down it’ll automatically take you into the next level So if I go all the way down it takes me back to stock If I just press up it puts me right into city If I keep going up through

05:31 city it’ll put me into sport So you can go through each one of the categories here and the different power levels up and down by just using these arrows But if you just want to go to the fastest click on track turn it all the way up That’s going to be the fastest setting and the most sensitive that

05:53 you’re going to do to your throttle But this particular kit has multiple settings within each category City has 10 different levels of power Sport has 10 different levels of power Track has 10 different levels of power And then you have stock So let’s go ahead and turn the truck on real [Music] quick

06:15 Okay So now the truck is running and we’re good to go So we’re on sport Let’s go ahead and take it to let’s just go to track and turn it all the way up like that Now on the very top you’re going to see three little dots If you hit the three dots you’re going to see different

06:31 settings and diagnostics recalibrate module information stuff like that But as you can see right now we are in track mode and we are in the highest level So let’s go ahead and try this out real quick Now one thing I do like about the Banks Pedal Monster is all of the

06:47 engineering and safety protocols that goes into this product is that they have a reverse override which means no matter what setting you’re in going forward as soon as you put it in reverse it takes you back to the stock reverse That way you’re not backing up with a very touchy

07:03 throttle I really like that because there are other products out there from other manufacturers that don’t have that So if you happen to have one of those other products on a very high setting when you’re in reverse you could be going backwards in in that same high

07:17 setting which could just make backing up a little bit unsafe So right now backing up is good Okay put it in drive and let’s see what it feels like Oh jeez Yeah Okay so track mode on the highest level is very sensitive I don’t think I’m going to be driving around in

07:43 that on a regular basis just because it’s too sensitive I don’t want to be in traffic or anything like that and deal with this truck Like oh look at that I mean as soon as you press on that pedal like a half inch you’re already going into overdrive and taking off I’m

08:01 going to put it in sport mode at the highest level and see how that feels just because track is very sensitive Change the setting real quick Okay so I just put it into sport mode on the highest level Let’s see how that feels Okay still pretty sensitive but it feels really

08:24 good Let me just kind of slow down again All right hold on one second here I’m just going to simulate like I’m pulling out I mean yeah even sport mode on the highest level is still pretty sensitive So I might even end up dialing that down a little bit to maybe like sport plus

08:46 five because there’s 10 levels of power within sport mode So right now I’m currently driving on sport power level 10 I mean this is awesome I mean when you hook up this pedal monster to your truck and again I’m in a 2022 Ram 3500 Mega Cab DY diesel truck These trucks

09:07 from stock have a very sluggish throttle response It takes pressing in the pedal almost halfway to even get the turbo to begin to spool up And on this Pedal Monster I’m barely pressing in the throttle but maybe a half an inch And I can already hear the turbo spooling up

09:26 and I’m taking off So yeah this feels awesome And again what I really like about the Banks Pedal Monster is again all of the safety protocols I’ve had other products in the past such as the Pedal Commander which is good I’m not knocking them The Pedal Commander was

09:43 pretty good and it does a very similar job but it doesn’t have the same safety protocol Whereas on the Banks Pedal Monster it shuts off the sensitivity when you’re backing up in reverse Another feature I really like about the Banks Pedal Monster if there’s ever an

09:59 issue or a malfunction with the Banks Pedal Monster it’s going to automatically take your throttle back to stock If you happen to be running a different product such as the Pedal Commander which again I’ve had it before If you have an issue with the pedal commander pedal commander doesn’t plug

10:19 into your OBD2 port The pedal commander just plugs into the throttle harness If your pedal commander malfunctions you’re not going to have any throttle until you unplug it and plug in the factory harness And that has happened to me once before Now my truck didn’t shut off It’s

10:38 just I had a malfunction with the pedal commander and all of a sudden I barely had any throttle I could only drive like five miles per hour and it was kind of sluggish feeling I had to pull over climb under the dash unplug the pedal commander plug back in the stock harness

10:55 and everything was fine But on the Banks Pedal Monster you don’t have to worry about that If the Banks Pedal Monster would ever fail or malfunction it automatically takes your pedal back to stock mode so that you’re not left without a throttle Okay so we’re back So overall

11:14 impressions I really like the Pedal Monster Now again I’ve had a Pedal Commander in the past I’ve had the Stealth performance modules Those were all great Don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking those products The The Pedal Commander was really good It just didn’t have some of the safety features that I

11:32 like which the Banks Pedal Monster does have So comparing the Banks Pedal Monster to the Pedal Commander me personally I lean towards the Banks Pedal Monster because it works fantastic and I like the safety features that it comes with And being that it’s very similar in price as the Pedal Commander

11:53 I like the Pedal Monster by Banks Performance Okay everybody So we’re all done And we went ahead and we installed the Banks Pedal Monster on my 2022 Ram 3500 DY diesel truck And I got to say it is awesome Night and day difference No exaggeration I first put it in track

12:13 mode at the highest level and it’s just too sensitive I mean you just tap the throttle and this truck is taking off So I dialed it down to sport mode at the highest level Even that was a little bit too sensitive But I’m going to drive in the sport mode for a little while and

12:30 try different settings to see which one I like best But I can tell you this this truck was a little laggy at first in the throttle department And and yes I get it There’s going to be people out there that just say blah blah blah press your pedal in all the way I get it But when

12:44 I’m pressing the pedal in all the way I’m waiting and anticipating for the truck to do what I want it to do I’m waiting for the turbo to kick in I’m waiting for that torque to kick in I’m always waiting and anticipating for what I need the truck to do next I don’t have

13:01 to do that with the pedal monster hooked up I figure out which setting is best for my driving style And the second I start pressing in on that throttle the truck does what I want it to do And that’s what I was hoping to gain from the Banks Pedal Monster And that is

13:16 exactly what I got I’m just saying that for those of you that have a heavyduty diesel truck that could be a little sluggish because of how heavy they are the Banks Pedal Monster is going to 100% increase the sensitivity of your throttle and really make driving these

13:32 trucks fun again But that’s going to be it for today’s video I hope this video helps some of you out Do me a favor hit that thumbs up button and like this video If you have any questions go ahead and put them in the comment section and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can

13:44 And also do me a favor subscribe to the channel because it definitely helps me out and I greatly appreciate it So that’s it I just want to say thank you to each and every one of you Thank you I truly appreciate you all And as always see you in the next video

“Another feature that I really like about the Banks PedalMonster is if there’s ever an issue or a malfunction, it automatically takes your throttle back to stock. If you have an issue with the Pedal Commander, which I’ve had before, it simply fails and leaves you stranded. All of a sudden I barely had any throttle. I could only drive five miles an hour. I had to pull over, climb under the dash, unplug the Pedal Commander, plug back in the stock harness, and everything was fine. But with the Banks PedalMonster you don’t have to worry about that.”

“Some people question why PedalMonster is necessary. Why can’t I just push my foot to the floor? When I’m pressing the pedal in all the way, I’m waiting and anticipating for the truck to do what I want it to do. I’m waiting for the turbo to kick in. I’m always waiting and anticipating what I need the truck to do next. I don’t have to do that with the PedalMonster hooked up. I figure out which is best for my driving style, and the second I start pressing in on the throttle the truck does what I want it to do.”
