Pontiac with L76 6.0L Needs Data

Tyler Reed’s 2009 Pontiac G8 GT had so little data on the dashboard, it was trying him crazy. His 4-door slammer came stock with an L76 6.0L. It had a ton of power but with no good way to keep an eye on it. “I originally had a 2009 Turbocharged Cobalt SS out of high school,” Tyler explains. “I just did bolt-ons and a tune on that one, and it lasted me until July 2017. That’s when I got my G8.”

“When my wife became pregnant, I couldn’t keep a two door car, and needed something where a car seat was easily accessible while still being able to achieve decent horsepower goals. That was the main reason I went with the G8. The fact that it had a V8, and you don’t see many of them on the road, made it the right choice. Plus, when I found this one it was completely stock, so I knew I’d be able to do what I wanted with it, versus trying to build off of someone else’s modifications.” His grocery getter pushes around 600 horsepower. Oh, and he has room for a baby seat, and a truck for his stroller.

Tyler installed a new iDash Pro in a custom mount nestled just in front of his shifter. With just a glance, he can see important pressures, temps, speeds, and air densities. As his engine upgrades grow, the iDash will show him exactly what each component adds or subtracts. As he tunes the car, he make educated decisions based on data, not guesses. And best of all, if the factory OBD bus doesn’t have data points that he wants, external sensors can be added. The sky is literally the limit when it comes to data.
