Outlaw Diesel Performance
John Robbinson opened Outlaw Diesel Performance in September of 2011. The funny thing about John’s business is that it actually started off as something part-time, pretty much as a hobby, and then doubled in size just two years later. “We really started working on trucks full time in late 2012… 2013,” recalls John. “At the start of it all it was just part-time thing buying and selling parts for customers who needed them, mostly friends of friends. Word got out on us and what we were doing and we just got so busy that we decided to go full-time.”
Aside from Outlaw growing so quickly, its origins are rather unique. “When I first started Outlaw with my business partner we primarily played with 7.3 liter Power Strokes, because that’s what we were into. We’d make them look better and perform better with upgraded components.” That first year or so John and his partner specialized solely on the older Ford diesels, creating a niche for themselves because most shops in the area didn’t like working on them. “It was a win-win situation for us because we got to work on what we liked and we filled a service void that was being ignored.” Word quickly got out and they started to field requests from people via recommendations to do other vehicles.
Even the name “Outlaw” came from something that John and his partner in crime enjoyed in their spare time. “At the time my business partner had a truck group called “Outlaw Off-Road”, so when we decided to make the business he already had the EIN (Employer Identification Number) for the club. We got an EIN specifically for the business under the name Outlaw Diesel Performance because we were already known in the area under Outlaw, and that’s where the name came from.”
Today Outlaw Diesel Performance works on all makes and models, primarily common rail models. They’re just as at home doing general maintenance and repair as they are doing performance and full-race builds. “If someone wants to make a race truck, we can help them do it. If someone wants to build a pulling truck, we could help them do it. If they want a more emission-friendly build we can help them do it, and that’s where products like the Banks Derringer inline tuner, Ram-Air intake and DPF-back Monster exhaust come into play.
Whatever the job is we put all the focus on doing the job right the first time, and we use quality components. Basically, we do the work on a customer’s vehicle as if we were working on our own vehicles.”
Really… what customer could ask for more? If you’re in the area give them a call, and they’ll treat your rig as if it were their very own.
