Banks 7.3 Intercooler Upgrade: OBS Power You Can Feel

Taking advantage of his project truck’s disassembled state, Joel decides it’s the right time to install the Banks Intercooler Upgrade System before the OBS F-350 heads to the body shop. This particular install isn’t for the faint of heart (there’s sheet metal cutting involved). It’s worth the effort because the intercooler allows the old PowerStroke to maintain maximum power long after the stock unit would be heat soaked.

00 Welcome back everybody. Glad you could join us again. On today’s episode, we’re going to be putting this uh Banks intercooler on. Um we were getting ready to send this to the body shop and realized that we got the front end off and be a whole lot easier to put this thing on. So, um we’re going to do that on this episode. And uh well, they sent me a cool shirt, too. So, I figured I’d show them some love and wear the shirt while I make the video. So, with that said, let’s get busy.

41 [Music] So, I got everything laid out. These are the templates um for the left, right side um that you cut your holes out. You just put that up there, cut your holes out. Um, but uh, as you can tell, those holes are already cut out due to operator error. There won’t be no video on that.

08 So, it’s moving forward. [Applause] Um, I went through the book and went through all the steps here and I just kind of numbered the steps um, in accordance to this stuff here. That way you can just look at the picture and go, “Okay, that’s step 40, that’s step 50, um, blah blah blah blah blah.” Um, for me that just helped me figure out what went where a whole lot faster. So, um, so now we’ve got, uh, got the lower brackets on. Um, waiting to, uh, mount the the top bracket hardware and and set the intercooler in there. [Music] Let’s see. [Music] Have to shorten that up some. [Music]

57 [Music] And I think this sets it in the right spot right off the bat. Okay. And then it’s saying to install these. Well, it says on these instructions that [Music] um it’s possible that these rubber pieces will have to be trimmed back some. Are you sure about that? They weren’t lying. Let’s see if it’ll see if they fit in between there. Let’s see here. Come this [Music] way. I forgot. That’s the same right there. Where’d it go? Well, at one point you’ve got it, then you lose it and it’s gone [Music] forever. Go. [Music] One eternity later. All right, after a long lengthy

20 search for a bolt that got away from me, we’re back in business. Try this again. [Music] Okay, got him. It doesn’t show to have a washer on there, but we have we have an extra I think. Let’s see. Requires one. There. [Music] [Music] Try not to drop this bolt. Be a little bit more difficult to get [Music] to. All right, we’re going to do something different here. Quick. [Music] [Music] No touchy. [Music] Okay, on to step 51. [Music] I’ll tell you right now. [Music] [Music] I figured it’s a lot lot more difficult than them instructions are letting on to be.

38 and kind of next to impossible. More ships need to be trimmed off. There’s not two different kinds of clamps, but that’s a tight fit. That’s [Music] okay. That’s a lot more difficult than you think. There’s some more [ __ ] that should have been trimmed off. I don’t know if you can see that very well, but it is next to impossible to get a clamp through there back there. I spent 30, 40 minutes fighting that only to realize that I still needed another clamp to go on there. So, I decided to take this one and basically grind all that back.

57 Basically all of that right there. I took an angle grinder to it. It was a tough fit, but I got it in there. That took half the time to get on. Now, so note to self, this piece right, I don’t know if you can see it. That right there. You have to trim all that back to get these clamps in there. [Music] the [Music] Br. Bring the [ __ ] back. Bring them back. Okay. [Music] [Music] Bring the [ __ ] back. Bring the Brickf. We got a change in plans before we finish all of this up. Um, we got the

17 high-pressure crossover. Um, and should have put it in before I put all this in cuz kind of sort of in my way on this side, but so I figured, well, let’s put this in before we do the other side before it’s all in my way. So, but let’s get busy on that. [Applause] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] I

49 [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat [Music] [Music] [Music] up [Music] here. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] Let me show y’all [Music] what they did not put this in the instructions, But once this pipe’s on, you cannot get

36 a band clamp around that. So you got to put bands on there, which makes it kind of sort of impossible to get that tube in there. So you have to grind all of that down so you can slide your bank in there. So, uh, I’m going to take a slight intermission so I can pull out a grinder and grind all that

07 [Music] off. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat [Music] Heat [Music] up here. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music]

12 Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Hey, Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] Obviously, mine doesn’t. I’m going to have a uh a custom one built. out of similar sheet metal. Come around here. Cover these up. And

03 have this on the bracket over here on this side, which that’s in the way. Now, I’m going to have a second one custom made to where comes up off of this. Pour that’ll all fit and cover all that up. Make it look a whole lot [Music] [Applause] [Music] better. Heat. Heat. [Music] N. [Music]

18 Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] I think what I’m going to do here is I think I’m going to have one of

49 these built to go all the way to this boot to where curves in a little bit more away from this cuz that’s touching. Kind of looks a little cheesy. So Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat up All right, it’s all in. Um, for the most part, um, it wasn’t that wasn’t too bad of an

30 install. Um, the instructions, the manual was a little difficult. Um, like I said, you’ve got to you’ve got to cut more of that away. to get them clamps in there. And uh the one thing that’s kind of bugging me is that I don’t know if y’all can see it or not, but that one’s about

02 a quarter of an inch or so away from that pulley. [Music] Let me know in the comments if I might have did something wrong, but I pulled and prodded and turned and twisted and I couldn’t get it any farther than a quarter of an inch away from that pulley. Um, this

24 side turned out okay. So, overall looks good. I kind of scratched it putting it in, so I might have to put a little touch-up paint on that. But that’s a wrap. Uh, intercooler’s in, crossover line in. Everything worked real well when we started it.

50 Um, and so, uh, got a couple other things that need to do before it goes to the body shop. I keep saying that. And eventually it’s going to go to the body shop. Yeah. Okay, buddy. But uh let me know what y’all think in the comments. Um I built this

09 uh little tub for this. And one day I say I’m going to put it on, the next day I’m not. So let me know what y’all think in the comments. Um I might do it, I might not. I do have another fender that I I’ll mock up and and see if I

28 like it and put it on. That may change my mind, but I don’t know. We’ll see. Anyway, uh really appreciate y’all tuning in. Um be sure to hit that like and subscribe button. It’s free. With that said, till next time, deuces.
