ABCO Diesel: Doing It Right Is A Family Heritage

ABCO Diesel owner Donny Abernathy is very familiar with Banks products. He’s installed Banks Sidewinder turbo kits on 6.2L-powered Chevy trucks, Tahoes, and Suburbans since the early 1990s. After a career of working at GM service centers, Donny decided that he wanted to work for himself. “I had worked at three dealerships and went to the GM training center in Burbank. I went to my service manager to let him know that I was leaving, and after telling him my plans for my own business he gave me a scope from the dealership to start my business off with. Since I was born and raised in Orange, California I decided to open the business there. After a number of years, I fell in love and moved to Sacramento. That place was no good for me. I developed severe asthma, forcing me to sell the business. Under the doctor’s suggestion, I moved to a dryer part of California to recuperate, and in 2010 I moved back to Orange and opened the shop that I’m in now.”

At ABCO Diesel Donny likes to inject his performance upbringing. “I try to do things differently. There are a lot of shops that claim to be ‘diesel specialists’, but just because they’ve worked on them before doesn’t make them experts. My family’s heritage comes from race cars and hot rods, and there’s an attention to detail that I learned from my uncles who built hot rods: do things right the first time and make them better when they came in.” Donny was rebuilding carburetors at 11 years old! “We have a state-of-the-art shop with eight techs. We order the right parts (like Banks), keep it California-compliant, and offer just about everything… but bodywork.
