3.0L Duramax Derringer Development Underway at Banks
Testing and tuning has begun on the Banks Derringer for GM’s new 3.0 liter Duramax turbo diesel. Just introduced in the 2020 model year for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, this new offering is attracting customers who have wanted the power and torque of a diesel but don’t necessarily have the need for the Earth moving power of the 6.6 liter L5P. But, as with any diesel can attest to there’s always the hunger for more power. Luckily the Derringer and iDash combo is the answer for reliable power and torque improvements.

Our engineers have been hard at work testing and tuning to get the most power available. In addition to the power improvements we’re adding in the class-leading advanced safety features like AutoRate® adaptive tuning to deliver peak performance under every driving condition, TransCommand® active transmission safety to enhance shift performance and improve the longevity of your transmission, and ActiveSafety® that ensures smooth operation that will never leave you stranded. Lead Engineer Jeff Lee continues to fine-tune the various levels of calibration on the dyno and on the road for drivability and power delivery.
The 3.0L Duramax Derringer is designed to deliver power gains safely by using real-time engine data to adjust performance. Unlike cheap inline tuners, the Derringer integrates with Banks iDash to monitor parameters like exhaust gas temperature, fuel rail pressure, and turbo boost—ensuring optimal tuning at all times. This approach mirrors the same safety-first engineering found in the Derringer for 6.6L L5P Duramax.
If you’re running a 3.0L Duramax in a Chevy Silverado 1500 or GMC Sierra, and you want reliable gains without the risk, the upcoming Derringer will be the safest, smartest option available.
