1967 Banks Opens Shop In San Gabriel
Gale went from doing business out of his parent’s garage as a teenager to creating C.P.’s Auto and Marine in a little garage in an alley in Lynnwood, California in 1960.
Seeing his business grow as demand for his stoutly built performance engines gained more and more traction meant it was time to move, and in 1967 Banks opened 800-square-foot facility on San Gabriel Boulevard, quickly later expanding to 2,800 square feet and adding “engine blueprint” machining capability.
He operated under the name of C.P. Auto and Marine for two more years before changing the business to “Gale Banks Racing Engines”… where his name instantly became known for legendary performance on land and water.
