Installing While Teaching the Next Generation

We’ve done a focus on Kyle Platt’s KP Automotive before, but that was during COVID and primarily focused on his high school teaching program, but COVID was soooo 2020 and we checked in with him to see how things have changed since then.

The big change is that Kyle has moved on from teaching at the high school to teaching at the local technical college, the Cumberland County Technical Education Center. This new world of students is far more engaged in the automotive field because they’ve chosen to learn about the subject as a career choice, and not just an elective the likes of wood shop and culinary. These are young people training for their ASC certification, and they are the future of the industry.

Teaching students about engine blocks.

When he’s not teaching he and the students that he’s hired are wrenching on vehicles in his new shop, as well as offering trusted parts like Banks through direct sales and eCommerce. “With so many irons in the fire, I really like selling Banks products because I know there is a ton of support. Recently, I sold a few competitor’s parts and there was a huge difference in after-sales experience when I had problems and questions they just didn’t care, but at Banks, I know that someone is there when I need them.”

Kids learning about trucks.

For all of his local customers, Kyle does something that no one else does: he offers most installations for free. That comes with an understanding that it is around a specific schedule where he can use the installation as a teaching method for his students while fully supervising them. Doing this gives both the student and the customer incredible value.
