666 Horsepower | Building a Monster Truck 9

In the latest episode of Banks Building a Monster Truck Engine series, Gale takes the supercharged 7.1L Duramax to 666 horsepower. Is that the max power this powerplant will make without turbos? He also unveils Banks’ new Charge Air Rating System (CARS), the ultimate way to measure an intercooler’s true performance. That intercooler that you just bought, did it live up to its claims? Did you spend your money wisely? Using CARS, the iDash will tell you.

Displayed on the four iDash DataMonster gauges in the dyno cell is CARS. It looks at ambient air and its contribution to manifold air density (MAD). It also looks at the supercharger and what’s in the intake manifold. If you don’t have a dyno cell, and you’re only using one iDash, you can still get CARS by flipping to different screens. The only requirement is a Banks AirMouse.

The Monster Truck Engine in the dyno cell at Banks gets up to 666 horsepower.

Gale and Aaron go to 5,000 RPM at 18:1 fuel ratio and then BAM! 666 horsepower! That’s some serious horsepower for a blown diesel. The episode wraps up with Gale going over the data from the dyno pull.

After reaching 666 horsepower, on episode 10 we get a first look at the Banks supercharged twin-turbo 7.0L Duramax race engine designed for use in a monster truck.
