955 hp Woods-Banks IMSA Monza
The 1978 Woods-Banks Dekon Monza featured the first Banks automotive twin-turbocharged system. The Monza’s engine was based on one of the first five General Motors High Performance 302 cubic inch small-blocks, an engine block designed specifically for NASCAR. Through the radical Banks twin-turbocharged system, air-to-water intercooler design, and a unique draw-though carburetor set-up, the Gale Banks engine produced 955 hp. This engine overpowered every system on the Monza, including tires, brakes, and aerodynamics.
