Believe it or not, the internal combustion engine has changed little in the 100-something years it’s been in existence. Oh, there have been refinements make to the components and system processes over the decades, but the fundamental design is the same as it ever was. Air comes in, mixes with an accelerant, ignites, heat energy is turned into mechanical energy, and the spent gases are pushed out. The primary variable in determining how much energy is generated is the amount of air going into and out of the engine. All things being somewhat equal, the more air that goes in and the quicker it flows out the more energy is converted…
