General Installation Practices
1) Initial Preparation
Raise the truck on a lift to provide ample access to the oil pan and the area you will be working with.
If using a lift, a support stand is also recommended.
Bring a large drain pan over to the transmission to catch the fluid.
2) Remove Transmission Pan
In no particular order, remove the 16 10mm bolts that hold the transmission pan.
Be sure to support the pan as you remove the bolts to ease the removal and tilt the pan as you remove it to drain.
Carefully lower the pan from the truck.
(Optional) Replace Transmission Filter
If you are replacing the filter in the pan, you can remove it now. Otherwise you may skip this step.
Note: there is still some fluid in the transmission pickup tube.

With an 8mm socket, remove the two bolts that hold the transmission filter on.
Note: There is still some fluid in the transmission pickup tube.
Thread back in the two bolts that hold the filter in place, and torque to 80 inch-pounds.
3) Ram-Air Transmission Pan Prep
Thread in and snug the 1/8″ NPT plug or if you have an auxiliary temperature sensor, you may thread this in now instead.
Thread in and snug the 10mm fluid level check bolt.
Thread in and snug the 15mm magnetic drain bolt.
If you purchased a new gasket, line it up now. Otherwise, clean the existing gasket and re-use.
4) Transmission Pan Installation
Wipe down any residual fluid from the gasket mating surface.
Bring the Ram-Air Pan up to the transmission mating surface. Start threading each bolt in by hand first to prevent cross-threading the bolts.
Tighten each transmission bolt to 8-10 foot pounds.
Remove the 10mm fill plug.
With a pump, fill the transmission with 12 quarts of fluid.
Replace the fill plug, and lower the truck back down to the ground.
5) Fluid Level Check
Idle the engine, set the parking brake, and keep your foot on the brake pedal. Shift the transmission to each position for at least 3 seconds to help distribute the fluid through the transmission.
Before checking the fluid level, be sure the transmission temperature reaches at least 170°F.
To do this, keep the parking brake set, your foot depressed on the brake pedal, and set the transmission to Drive.
Once the fluid reaches 170°F, leave the engine running, shift the engine to Park, and raise the truck back up to check and verify the fluid level.
CAUTION
The transmission fluid will be hot. Take extra care when removing the bolt and checking the fluid level especially if done on the ground with jack stands.
Carefully remove the fluid level plug, and check the fluid level. It should be right at the hole, slightly dripping out.
6) Ram-Air Scoop
The Ram-Air scoop is held in place by 4 spacers and bolts. It is designed to break away in the event of a rock collision.
Line up the Ram-Air scoop first, then put the spacers and bolts in.
Start each by hand to avoid cross-threading and be sure the spacers seat properly.
Tighten each bolt to 55 in-lbs.
Now lower the truck, hit the road, and enjoy your new Ram-Air Transmission Pan.
