Episode 1: How synthetic motor oil is made
As Gale Banks prepares to debut the new Banks diesel crate engine program, he wants to know as much as he can about synthetic motor oil. How is it made, what additives are used and why, and what qualities define a superior synthetic motor oil? These are just a few of the questions he aims to answer during his in-depth tour of AMSOIL’s Superior, Wisconsin manufacturing plant.
Episode 2: What’s in synthetic motor oil?
Gale Banks continues his lubrication education as he dives deep into synthetic motor oil chemistry. What raw materials and additives are used and why? These are just a few of the questions he aims to answer during his in-depth tour of AMSOIL’s chemical laboratory.
Episode 3: How laboratories test motor oil
How does motor oil get its winter viscosity rating like 5W, 10W, etc? How are foam and aeration tested? How does it hold up to severe oxidation and what corrosion protection does it offer? What effect do oil additives have on metals they claim to protect?
Episode 4: This is a brutal motor oil test
How do you know if motor oil is doing its job? You put it in an engine and subject it to a brutal 50-hour test. Before assembly, every component is carefully measured and tolerances are documented. This establishes a baseline. After the test, every moving component is measured again. The test produces data that the motor oil manufacturer can use to improve their formula.
