Wood-Banks Dekon Monza
1978 Woods – Banks IMSA Monza – First Banks Automotive Twin-Turbo
The Woods-Banks Dekon Monza featured the first Banks automotive twin-turbocharged system. The Monza’s engine is based on one of the first five General Motors High Performance Program’s 302 ci small-block – an engine block designed specifically for NASCAR racing. Through the radical Banks twin-turbocharged system, air-to-water intercooler design, and a unique draw-though carburetor set-up, the Gale Banks engine produced 955 hp. This engine overpowered every system on the Monza, including tires, brakes, and aerodynamics.
