Problematic Bolt Failure Causes A Close Call

We’ve been accused of causing a ruckus about the problematic bolt on the 6.7L Cummins factory grid heater, but when you’re sent pictures, get testimonials, and are handed failed parts—it’s not a fable, it’s reality. The latest one comes from Jerry Morris who explains, “I took my RAM to the dealer because of a P2609 code. The quote to fix it was $1500 to replace the heater and they recommended replacing the relay for an additional $500!”

The problematic bolt isn't where it's supposed to be because it's fallen out.

“I was looking for a replacement heater when I found Gale Banks’ video. When I pulled it apart it looked just like the video with the bolt and nut missing. After looking around inside with my endoscope (camera on a stick) I couldn’t see any sign of it. I was praying I’d find it before it fell into a cylinder. I got out my magnet and went fishing. Bingo! It was in the back corner of the head, just waiting to be sucked in. Instead of replacing the stock part, I bought the Banks Monster-Ram, which replaces that grid heater with a high-flow intake plate. And, it gives me more performance.” Jerry added a scary thought… “We’ll never know, but I would bet the dealer wouldn’t have found the bolt.”

Now Jerry never has to worry about the problematic bolt again! We’re glad you were one of the lucky ones.
