Waking Up A Supercharger
If you had a vehicle that just wasn’t giving you the power you wanted, you’d hit the aftermarket for solutions. But what if you’ve pumped up the power and it still didn’t feel right. Such was the case of Todd French’s Jeep Wrangler, where mods were both engine AND forced induction. “My 2021 GMC 3500 Duramax is a beautiful truck, but it lacked the performance that I felt that it should have. We tow a 38’ fifth-wheel that, when loaded, is about 20,000 lbs and it needed more than what it was giving. I went to Banks, and I installed a PedalMonster, Derringer Tuner, a Ram-Air Intake, Monster Exhaust, and an iDash SuperGauge. “My wife’s 2007 Jeep Wrangler, on the other hand, is a different story. My wife’s Jeep has always been starving for power and plagued by an incredibly spongy pedal. We put some suspension upgrades on it and some 35” tires—the usual Jeep stuff. The engine has had some headwork done, and I added a supercharger for some extra power. It’s faster, but it doesn’t FEEL as fast as it should. I know what a difference the PedalMonster made in my truck, so I bought one for the Jeep, hoping that it would make it feel more alive. The result floored me. Now the thing is as responsive as a 1970 Cuda. The combination is absolutely sick, and I can roast the tires if I want to—which I don’t because they’re expensive,” says Todd with a chuckle.”
