01:51 more common to see people swapping them out but if you’ve got a truck like this you’ve got the six nine it runs good you’re thinking man I don’t want to go through all that time and money to go and do a come and swap I’d like to just put a turbo on it instead you know maybe
02:01 this is the right option for you rather than doing a come and swap we’ve owned a lot of common swap pickup trucks here and uh giving away quite a few as well if you find like a stock ve pump 12 valve Cummins versus this with the turbo they’re very they’re very similar so I
02:13 think this is a good option and you’ll spend a whole lot less money doing rather than doing a a full coming swamp so let’s hop into it let’s pop the hood and show you guys the setup all right under the hood here we have our 699 IDI um some other things that we did to this
02:25 truck just to make it a little more you know apparent for you in the video we did the this truck was a 6998 from the factory but it was a two-wheel drive we did a Dana 60 Swap and a zf5 5-speed manual swap so it’s good to know that this will all work if you’re planning on
02:36 doing a Dana 60 and if you’re planning on doing a zf5 swap this will all work with the bank’s kit no issues there but there you can see the bank’s kit with its big print letter Sidewinder terminal right on the front you can’t miss it that it’s a Banks it looks pretty cool
02:48 but uh you know it’s only as cool as you can make an IDI look I think 12 hours look cooler you know big six in a row rather than you know kind of the mess that is an IDI but it does look pretty cool you can see the Big Turbo there wastegate and everything right up front
02:59 so it’s pretty red all right first things first let’s talk about the price of this setup we paid for the whole setup plus shipping and taxes whatever else plus the CDR relocation bracket we paid 3516 so some people might look at it and say that is absolutely ridiculous that
03:14 you pay that much money however this is an all-inclusive kit you get everything in this kit all the way down to the little add a fuse so that you can get switch power for your for your gauges so it includes everything exhaust turbo up pipes downpipe it has the pedestal the
03:30 turbo itself a wastegated turbo the air intake everything for for 3516 we did the math before this video and if you were gonna go out and Source everything because there’s other companies that make the up pipes the pedestal you could Source the turbo you could Source the
03:46 exhaust separately you could Source the gauges separately if you sourced everything separately it’d be pretty close to four thousand dollars so really you know three thousand five hundred bucks is not an easy bite to take but if you can take that bite in one just just
03:59 at once you’re actually gonna save money by buying this kit which is crazy because 3 500 bucks is not cheap by any means but it is nice to know that you’re not going to be wasting money by buying this kit versus something else now with that being said before anyone in the

04:24 Pretty stinking good deal and probably pretty hard to beat for the price point second thing we want to touch on is the quality of materials in this kit I have to say after putting the kit on it’s pretty nice like the up pipes are a nice cast material the turbo’s nice and it’s
04:37 wastegated and it feels nice and quality and heavy duty has a really cool air intake setup with an air filter housing and uh you know it comes with really nice um you know boost gauge and EGT gauge the exhaust is all stainless um so the quality materials is really
04:53 really really nice the exhaust is three inch exhaust system some people might say like oh man why don’t you go a four inch exhaust you know that might be the only difference that you have here that you might not like is that it’s a three inch exhaust I think it sounds rad it
05:04 sounds really really nice but maybe if you call Banks and order this kit and said Hey listen I want the whole kit I just don’t want the exhaust maybe they’ll knock off 800 bucks for you and you can run whatever exhaust system you want but you will still need that downpipe so
05:17 um but I will say the quality materials was really nice the hoses are nice you know the fittings were there all the fittings were nice and high quality as well so Hardware was nice and well labeled so that’s all great I I have to say I think that the even though it’s
05:29 it’s you know it’s not going to fully break the bank you know for 3 500 bucks you’re still gonna get really nice high quality stuff all right number three the third thing we want to touch on is the quality of instructions in this kit something like this is going to require
05:42 you know a lot of steps to install this is not something that you’re just going to look at it and say oh yeah I know where every bolt and nut goes and how to throw this thing on you’re going to need some instructions and I have to say the instructions are pretty dang clear and
05:53 well written the diagrams are well drawn and so it’s pretty easy to follow along I will say you might need to know some terminology before you get started things like oil feed line up pipe down pipe you know words that you’re going to need to know when you’re reading this
06:06 instruction booklet so it makes sense but there’s part there’s part diagrams and everything in there that will help you kind of get a grasp on what’s all included it’s like seven boxes or six boxes worth of stuff and so it’s kind of daunting when you first get it all as
06:18 you’re like holy crap I don’t know what’s wide onto my left hand for my right hand but once you get all laid out you read the instructions it is pretty clear and pretty well written priest succinct I think the only two things I needed extra help on when doing this
06:28 install was the pump adjustment and the only missing in the instructions from what we saw was the location of where to grab oil where to tap in for oil for the oil feed line and where you find that is actually down on the oil Galley I think is what it’s called down on the side of
06:46 the block on the driver’s side of the block there is a port you can thread out that Port down by the by the oil filter and then you can thread in your oil pickup line right there it’s the correct size it’s correct length and everything like that but they just didn’t include
06:59 that in the instructions for whatever reason besides those two things the instructions are pretty dang good pretty well written four the fourth thing that we want to touch on is some of the cool features that you’re going to find in the banks kit which we really liked and
07:09 and I think lend to the kit feeling very high quality stuff like this air filter housing that uh is really well placed the whole kit kind of works around the air filter housing and then the air filter housing utilizes the factory cold air intake our truck was missing that so
07:27 we bought from hypermax they sell this like basically cold air intake that pulls air either from your cowl or from your fender well but even still it all worked out great so that’s really nice it came with really nice gauges EGT and boost gauge as well which I thought was
07:42 a nice bonus that I wouldn’t have you know expected to come in the kit so the kit comes with some cool little bonuses like that which are pretty nice and kind of add more value to the kit all right the fifth thing we want to touch on is installation difficulty I would not say
07:56 that this is an easy install I would not say that this is for somebody who is anxious or not very comfortable wrenching on their own truck however with that being said it was not the end of the world we did this in about two days probably about 15 hours worth of work and uh between two and a half
08:13 people sometimes we have a third hand there to help along but really if you if you had a friend and you wanted to do it over a weekend you could absolutely get it done I think the hardest part about the whole entire install is definitely the downpipe fitment you need to be
08:26 comfortable about banging on your firewall or grab like a scissor jack like a like a scissor jack that you’d find a spare tire kit put that in between your trans and your firewall and use that to stretch your firewall out and use that to kind of make some extra
08:39 space for for that downpipe the downpipe fitment is tight but besides that the kit was pretty easy to install get the turbo on getting the pressure chamber on the up pipes all that stuff was pretty simple and pretty straightforward the instructions because they’re well
08:50 written make it not that big of a deal yeah I would I would say if you can set aside a whole entire weekend you could get this whole entire turbo installed on your truck all right the sixth thing we want to touch on is that this kit is kind of a one size fits all this is kind
09:00 of a negative that we have to say the kit doesn’t fit a hundred percent perfect and what I mean by that is back again to like you really gotta bang on that firewall you really got to make some space there um you know there’s times when you’re having to spin and twist and kind of
09:15 move things around to get them to fit this kit is meant to fit all these trucks for you know six years or whatever or four years however long these trucks had Idis in them so they’re not going to be 100 perfect I will say like the exhaust system hangs a little low
09:29 um it could be higher and Tighter up in there so the Kit’s not like a hundred percent 100 kit but I think if you’re buying something off the shelf you kind of know that if you want something to fit absolutely perfect you know if you want your exhaust to be high and tight
09:40 and perfect you’re gonna go to an exhaust shop and pay you know 1500 bucks to go get custom exhaust bent up for you so that’s kind of a negative there is that the fit isn’t a hundred percent perfect everything on the turbo side in the engine bay I think like fits pretty
09:52 dang nice and it’s pretty snug but I think as you get down into the exhaust things get a little bit goofier and it’s kind of made to fit not perfect fit so that’s kind of something to think about that you’re not going to be getting this perfect absolutely dialed fitment when
10:04 you buy a kit like this however I will say if you are doing a zf5 swap it will fit there as well so you know you don’t have to say oh crap I have to leave in my my t19 my four-speed auto my four-speed manual if I want to do the swap it’ll fit regardless all right for
10:16 the seventh thing that we want to touch on for this video something I think is important for you guys to know is that this kit uses your factory manifolds this is both a plus and a negative and so it’s got you got your factory manifold you have a crossover pipe that
10:28 runs underneath your clutch inspection plate and then that crossover plate butts up together with the up pipe that comes off of your passenger side exhaust manifold hopefully that makes sense so off your passenger manifold you have the up pipe there’s a crossover that runs
10:42 from your driver’s side and connects there and then that up pipe goes up to the turbo but it uses those Factory manifolds this is a good thing and a bad thing it’s a good thing if you have no exhaust leak and you don’t need to take off your manifolds ever and you’re like
10:54 okay I’ve got no exhaust leak it’s great it’s wonderful because we all know pulling out exhaust bolts or manifold bolts is a pain in the butt they snap they get rusty all that kind of stuff they suck to remove nobody likes doing it a lot of times they need to get drilled out so it’s a plus that you
11:08 don’t have to drill them out however if your truck has leaky manifolds You’re Gonna Lose boost because you’re not gonna have all that exhaust going into your turbo so you’re gonna have to pull your exhaust manifolds and put new manifold gaskets on and put them back on so that’s kind of a sucky thing
11:23 something to be aware of if you’re going to do this is that it uses the factory manifolds if you’re buying a setup that uses aftermarket manifolds you got to take them off one way or another but just something to be aware of that if you have Factory manifolds and they’re
11:36 leaky you’re gonna have to fix it before you do the kit so that’s just something to think about so let’s shut the hood that’s all the stuff we want to talk about outside let’s shut the hood and then we’ll go for a drive we’ll talk about the performance how it sounds and
11:46 all that other good stuff all right so you know when there’s no boost obviously if you’re just cruising around it drives like a 699 idiot obviously like that’s not a surprise thing but nice it’s like a nice white a red needle so I’m just talking about how it performs okay I think it goes
12:09 I mean I’ve this might be one of my favorites if not my favorite sounding diesel now with a turbo on it with the turbo this thing sounds absolutely insane almost like six liter Power Stroke so I think it sounds just freaking rad um we have this thing it doesn’t start
12:26 with the giveaway truck we will turn the pump up 90 degrees it’s out of its own way just fine it’s not there’s nothing crazy you know you’re not you’re not rolling a ton of coal you’re not being a smoky pig or any trades like that Just Around Town you’re not hauling a trailer obviously your AGT cool
12:60 pretty minor it builds boost pretty quickly and there’s not a lot of boost lag because it’s non-inter cooled you’re not you know your Boost comes on quicker pull that was that was 800 Degrees a little 10 pound a little ten pound pulling fourth here so you know we’re not
13:27 running a ton of smoke we’re not smoking anybody out it’s got good acceleration it’s absolutely drivable at 10 pounds if you head stud your six nine you can run 15 pounds and then if you change out the Rings from like a turbo 7-3 you you can run like 20 pounds 20 25 pounds
13:47 I do think however if you could go that far you need to look into an intercooler which is going to put your setup from like 3 500 bucks up to like five thousand dollars so and uh it’s along just fine I think if you’re gonna do some serious Towing as well if you want to intercool it but again a
14:05 full pull like that a Full Throttle pull only around about 800 Degrees nothing crazy on the egts it made the truck 100 drivable and I think that’s what I want this review to end with as we close this review out I want you guys to understand even at just 10 pounds of boost um this kit made this truck
14:23 okay when I got this truck for example it was on it was stock on 31s or 32s dually it was so slow it wouldn’t get out of its own way it was almost dangerous to drive this truck now is on 35s has a front axle has a transfer case has this turbo waste probably significantly more than it did before
14:41 and gets out of its own way because of the turbo setup so you know if you’re on the fence about doing a turbo in general it will make your 699 it’ll make your bullnose 100 daily drivable I could drive this thing every single day and never have to worry about you know crap
