In a display of sheer dominance, Gale Banks powered jet boats clinched the top 5 spots at the grueling 1978 New Zealand Citizen Jet Boat Marathon, an 11-day, 1000-kilometer race. This victory marked the second consecutive marathon win for Reg Benton, who also triumphed at Canada’s Great Smokey Marathon just months prior. Banks’ turbocharged engines proved their reliability and power, propelling Benton to a staggering one-hour lead over the competition.
This win wasn’t an isolated incident.
