New Driver Learns Old Tricks

The iDash SuperGauge is an extremely versatile instrument that provides information way beyond diesel pickups. This week’s submission is a 2018 Kia Soul with manual transmission. Max, the owner, is a new driver and just learning to drive a manual. Lucky for him the iDash has a pretty handy feature: a shift light.

Situated off in the corner and in his peripheral view, the iDash is set to flash in a color that catches his attention and lets Max know when to shift at a user-defined set point. Until he gets used to the car, Max will be alerted to shift at a lower RPM. Of course, the learning curve will soon be over and that RPM set point for the shift light will be moved closer to the redline.

Shift Light on iDash teaches new driver to drive manual.

Other than the nifty shift light, the iDash tells the new driver way more than his dashboard displays. “I’m taking full advantage of the iDash keeping an eye on everything. This is my first car, and I want it to last. The iDash lets me set alarms for temperature, which I plan to use. And the fact that I can read and clear codes… what’s not to like about that?”

“I know I’m a new driver, but a manual transmission just feels right. It’s like being a part of the car. Anyone can drive an automatic, and even with paddle shifters it just doesn’t feel the same.”

Max’s Kia isn’t the only compact equipped with an iDash. The Might Mite is 300 HP Fiat that relies on the iDash.
