Engineering that pays for itself

Brad Wilson doesn’t like to stay in one place for long, and he spends a lot of time behind the wheel racking up the miles on his 2022 Ford F-600 6.7L RV. Brad explains “Your average truck owner probably drives like 2 or 3 hours a day, but I make runs that are 8 hours a day because I’m moving all over the country. I’m carrying about 90 gallons of diesel, so I could actually go on for 12 hours if I wanted to. It gets a great workout, and that’s where the Ram-Air intake shines.” But why does he drive his motorhome so much? “See, I’m a ‘snowbird’ from Canada, and I go between Florida and out west. We don’t like to stay anywhere longer than two weeks, so we’re constantly moving. We do this for about six months out of the year.”

Brad put the Ram-Air intake on his mobile HQ, and the results were almost baffling to him. “4.3% savings for sure, as much as 6%. It’s incredible! You have to remember that this thing weighs about 25,000 pounds, right, and just going down the highway on flat land it’s running at about 30% load all of the time… and it’s pulling a 4,300-pound Jeep Wrangler. When I first put it on, I thought that the data that I was getting must be wrong. I’m an engineer, so I’m crunching numbers saying to myself that something must be wrong here. I kept going over things, and it was right. The data comes from going from fuel burn before to fuel burn now, and the only thing that I’ve done differently is that I put the Ram-Air Intake on. This thing is literally going to pay for itself in just two years.”

“Something that I love about this system is how well it was engineered to do its job right. I have one of those temperature guns and when I stop at rest stops I take a look at things. What I noticed was is that the air is a whole lot cooler going into the engine. I saw all of the Banks videos, the data presented, and they all made sense. The surprise is seeing something that delivers on what was promised is a hard thing to come by. And I don’t keep it all to myself. I see a lot of folks with motorhomes like mine, and I share my findings. It’s just too hard to not to share!”
