6.8L Motorhome Performance: PowerPack Upgrade

Upgrading a 36-Foot Tiffin Motorhome at the Banks Powerhouse

We cover a lot of trucks and cars in this newsletter. Recently, we featured the iDash Pro in track Miatas. However, it has been a while since we highlighted our 6.8L Ford V10 motorhome performance systems like the PowerPack or Stinger Bundle. For example, Michael Reeves and his wife drove all the way from Nanaimo, Canada to have the Banks Stinger Bundle installed in their 36-foot Tiffin motorhome.

“Our total road trip spanned close to 6,000 km,” says Michael while relaxing in the customer lounge. “Leaving the Vancouver area, we drove directly to Banks for the Stinger installation. We arrived around 3pm the day prior to our appointment. From that moment on, the team made us feel right at home. In addition, they provided us with water and electrical hookups. The next morning, the technician began work while my wife and I enjoyed lunch. By the time we returned, the entire installation was complete. Afterwards, the tech walked us through the upgrades, and we were back on the road.”

Banks Torque Tube headers eliminate factory manifold cracking while delivering 56 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque.

It didn’t take long for Michael to notice the difference between stock and Banks. “I’m a mechanic by trade, let’s start there. I noticed the changes immediately. Just the way it ran, sounded and felt on the road was blatantly different to me. I live at the bottom of a big hill, and when I would take the motorhome out it just groan up that hill. There was no get-up-and-go. It also lagged on the freeway to the point of almost being dangerous. After the Stinger Bundle was installed the get-up-and-go was phenomenal. It made just a huge difference. On our trip, there was a diesel pusher in my group. My rig had no problem keeping up with it. I’m totally happy with the decision to get this installed!”

“It was my friend who recommended the Banks system. In fact, as soon as he saw that I had bought the RV, he said that I needed to get the system, and that I’d be really impressed. Well, I am so impressed that I’m now the one who recommends it to everyone. I was at a campground where we met another guy with a 6.8L, and he was complaining about the lack of power, too. I gave him my Stinger Bundle literature and told him exactly what he needed—Banks!” Book your installation today! Call our team at (800) 601-8072.

Exhaust Scavenging and 6.8L Motorhome Performance Dynamics

Heavy Class A motorhomes weigh over 20,000 pounds. This massive weight pushes the Ford 6.8L Triton V10 engine to its mechanical limits. The factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds choke exhaust flow with restrictive, un-tuned log designs. High exhaust backpressure traps residual burned gases inside the cylinders. This trapped heat causes detonation and forces the engine computer to retard ignition timing. As a result, the motorhome loses pulling power and groans up highway inclines.

Banks systems eliminate these restrictions by applying tuned exhaust gas dynamics. Banks Torque Tube headers feature mandrel-bent stainless steel tubes with a high-velocity merge collector. Each exhaust pulse pulls the trailing pulse out of the combustion chamber. This scavenging effect draws in fresh air and drops under-hood temperatures. Pairing these headers with the Banks Ram-Air intake delivers dense oxygen to all ten cylinders. The complete system yields 56 horsepower and easily out-climbs steep grades.
