Turbocharging in the 1970s | Speed School
Walt Ware joins Gale Banks for a third round of discussing the history of turbocharging on the Speed School podcast.
Starting with this episode (Ep 12), Speed School Podcast is now a video too! Gale Banks is joined again by Walt Ware, former President of Garrett AiResearch, a powerhouse in the turbo business. Walt details his journey from fixing Caterpillar’s turbo supply chain to mending Garrett’s UK malfunctioning manufacturing business. Not even a union strike could stop this determined engineer.
Walt shares a wild story about John DeLorean calling him to go to Daytona to help Smokey Yunick. Afterward, John offered the position of Chief Engineer at DeLorean Motor Company to Walt. Despite a tempting offer, Walt declined.
Episodes 10 and 11 of the Speed School Podcast featuring Walt, were rich in history and were just begging for a video component. Thanks to archival footage, this episode is significantly improved.
Balljoint on YouTube commented: “Amazing episode! I planned to just listen to a little during a break, but ended up watching the whole thing! Can’t wait to hear the rest about turbocharging history.”
