Dyno Cell Fuel Flow Meter Assembly
The construction of the fuel flow meter assembly is complete and is currently being installed in dyno cell 2. This is where the precision instruments will gather important data. The information gathered from it will be crucial in the development of the supercharged twin-turbo diesel Monster Truck engine. Its two fuel flow meters (one measures the flow into the engine, while the other measures the fuel flow return out of the engine) add another level to assist engineers. The level helps precisely tune the engine’s massive power on demand.
Because a Monster Truck’s power delivery is in constant flux, it’s important to know if the fuel system meets demand. Also important is measuring the quality, condition, and temperature to and from the engine. To eliminate vibrations, which may cause erroneous data, every part mounted is affixed to the assembly with rubber isolators.
This new piece of equipment is very responsive, and very accurate. It also has a low-pressure drop from the inlet to the outlet, and is able to measure the density of the fuel, pounds per unit volume of the fluid, and the fuel’s viscosity. Want more stats on this? The meters can flow 400 gallons per hour, handle media temperatures up to 302°F (150°C), and can handle up to 1450 psi (100 bar).
