Wayne Zimmerman grew up around mechanics, his dad and brothers owned shops. Always having a wrench in his hand he naturally showed a passion for cars, but back then there wasn’t much in the way of diesel performance to get excited about. That lasted until he got his hands on a 12-valve Cummins, and everything changed from there. After doing his first turbo upgrade, he still remembers the experience of torque and power. That led him on the path to where he is now. “My work on diesels became a hobby that made me money on the side,” said Wayne, “until it kinda got out of hand. It turned rather quickly into full time repair and performance.”

So in 2004 he got his business license, and what started out as him working out of his garage quickly jumped to a building in a commercial business park and Midwest Truck Parts. It didn’t take long from that point for him to make the move to where the business now stands.

In addition to the repair and service business, Wayne also has a turbo shop in the back making his own brand of turbos for semi-trucks under the name Air Tec Innovations.

To say Wayne has a lot of things going on would be an understatement. Even though he had a lot of work on his hands he kept a great perspective: “If you really have a joy and passion for what you do, your work is less ‘work’ and becomes fun. That’s how I keep it positive, instead of thinking of it as just replacing parts and working out problems. We have a motto of ‘we do it right the first time’ because we don’t just go to the autoparts store and put whatever on to get a truck out of the shop, we do the research and go out of our way to fix problems and use something better than what we are replacing.”

Wayne knows performance diesel and has never lost passion for the power, but that’s not really the focus of the business. “We’ve done performance builds and played with pulling trucks, but we’re more focused on customer, commercial and towing. There’s also a lot of farming in this area, so it’s more about making the trucks more usable. You can build a nice, clean running truck with 600 horsepower and have it be a solid towing rig as well. Something that is actually usable, instead of something that’s smoky and the turbo doesn’t spool right.”

Wayne has the knowledge and the right attitude for his business. If you’re in Iowa and in the Cantril area and you want your rig serviced by someone with a motto of doing things right the first time, then take it to Midwest Truck Products.
