2005 Ford 6.0-liter Power Stroke Excursion

Back in 2010 Chris Kuntz purchased his 2005 Ford 6.0-liter Power Stroke Excursion Limited 4×4 with around 150,000 miles on it. At that time he had done his research on all the performance parts available and settled on the Banks Big Hoss Bundle. “I wish more people would really take a deeper look at your website,” says Chris,” they’d see the extent of research for that engine. It’s pretty incredible!” Chris enjoyed a huge addition of horsepower and some significant gains in mileage. To top it all off… the kit and everything gained was trouble-free.

Back in 2010, Chris Kuntz purchased his 2005 Ford 6.0-liter Power Stroke Excursion Limited 4×4 with around 150,000 miles on it.

After getting told that he’d have to take care of his engine work on his own, Chris thought about swapping a Cummins engine into his Ford, but a conversation with a trusted mechanic quickly changed his mind. “We went over everything and it just didn’t make sense to swap. My mechanic opened my eyes to the fact that the entire Banks system would not be able to be used, and that all the piping… all the wiring… everything basically would need to be changed. I made the smart decision to have a bullet-proofed 6.0 liter built and to reinstall my Banks system, which was the best decision I could have ever made.”

His Phoenix rising project build goes a little something like this:

  • Asheville Engine 6.0L: Stage 2 Cam, O-Ringed Cylinder Heads, High Rev Valve Train, Polydyn Ceramic Piston Coating, Polydyn Ceramic Bearing Coating, Wagler Connecting Rods, ARP Head studs.
  • Banks Power Big Hoss Bundle
  • Banks iDash / Gauge pillar
  • Banks Power Torque Converter
  • Stock Garrett Turbo w/ compressor upgrade
  • HD Alternator
  • HD Alternator Cables
  • HD Aluminum Radiator
  • Coolant Filtration System
  • Upgraded Coolant Reservoir

Chris could not be happier with the resulting build. “I love the power; it gets up to 20 mpg and has something that’ll last me for the long haul. I don’t really tow anything huge, I don’t care to ‘roll coal’, I’ll never enter it in a pulling contest… it’s just a daily driver and I’m just enjoying the heck out of this thing!” When asked about the power and future plans Chris had this to say, “I kept the stock injectors and stock turbo because that’s what the Big Hoss system was designed around, and I really didn’t want to mess with that part. The engine build is capable of 450 hp, and really I’m fine with the power as is… but I love having more in reserve just in case I ever want to upgrade the turbo and injectors.”

Chris closed with these thoughts on his monster: “There are a million things out there I’d still like to do with this, but I know at a minimum I researched everything and from the time I turn this thing over to the time I turn it off, and everything in between, this thing sings perfectly. I’m hoping this lasts a lifetime because I intend to keep it a lifetime!”
