Dan Young started Standard Diesel in the late 90’s when the business where he worked was sold to a new owner. The new owner didn’t particularly care for Dan and let him go soon afterward. Dan decided at that point that he needed to open up a place of his own… just a few doors down.

Back then it was just Dan and a service writer in a 3,000 sq. ft. shop, and today Standard Diesel has grown to a 9,000 sq. ft. shop with 9 people. Standard Diesel takes pride in the fact that their specialty is diagnostics and repair, cracking sometimes the most baffling cases that other shops have given up on. They also do their fair share of fortifying Power Stroke 6.0 liter engines. “We do about 5 a month on average,” said Dan. “When you do the fixes to those engines they’re a pretty solid performance candidate.”

And speaking of performance, Standard Diesel’s not a self-proclaimed performance powerhouse, but they do know a thing or two. “When folks ask for performance parts we always check to see what Banks has for their application,” says Dan, “We pretty much trust Banks over the other brands. We use to go to the product and sales training at the Banks campus back in the day, about 4 times I’m thinking. Being able to do that, talk with the engineers and hang with them was an eye opener on how product development and testing is done. We also like the fact that we don’t get headaches after installing the product. Take a Derringer for instance: If a customer wants me to install a competitive product instead of a Derringer, I just won’t do it. It’s not worth the hassle after the fact.”
