Banks iDash Pro lets you add a custom shift-light alert in a manual vehicle, so you are not stuck with whatever RPM the factory chose. The real advantage is control: you can set the warning at a lower engine speed to give yourself more margin before over-revving or pushing the engine harder than you want. You can also change the alert color, which makes the warning easier to see when you need to shift now, not a second later. It is a simple iDash feature, but it gives you a more useful RPM warning than a one-size-fits-all factory light.
To add a shift light on an iDash installed in a manual-transmission vehicle, begin by opening the device menu with the right arrow. From there, scroll until you reach the Shift Light menu.
Inside that menu, confirm that the shift light function is turned on. The feature must be enabled before any RPM-based alert can be configured.
Once the shift light is active, set the desired shift RPM. This determines the engine speed at which the iDash will trigger the alert, allowing the driver to choose a shift point that matches the vehicle and driving style.
The video notes that this can still be useful even if the vehicle already includes a factory shift light. In that case, the iDash can be configured to alert at a lower RPM, giving the driver an earlier warning and helping protect the engine from being revved higher than intended.
After selecting the RPM threshold, the alert color can also be changed. Setting a highly visible color makes the shift indication easier to notice while driving.
