This truck’s problem is simple: huge 46-inch tires and heavy wheel assemblies load everything harder. That shows up as slower response, more strain on the drivetrain, and more heat in the differential. Our fix was to address the whole system. 1. Megarex Truck Overview

The video centers on a 2018 Ford F-250-based MegaRex truck, built by the company MegaRex and referred to as a MegaRaptor. According to the owner, only about 100 had been built at the time, and this particular example was truck number three. Compared with factory off-road performance trucks such as the Ram TRX and Ford Raptor, this build is presented as a much larger and heavier machine, based on a Super Duty platform and powered by the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel.

2. Tire Size and Driving Tradeoffs

One of the truck's defining features is its enormous tire package. The owner confirms the tires are 46 inches tall, and the truck has been adapted from an eight-lug to a ten-lug arrangement to support the extreme wheel-and-tire setup. Those assemblies are later described as roughly 400 pounds each, which has major implications for driveline load, acceleration, and differential temperature.

That size also changes how the truck behaves in everyday driving. Steering effort and turning radius are both affected, and the owner notes that tight U-turns are essentially off the table. Maneuvering requires planning ahead, especially in confined spaces such as drive-throughs, where the truck needs repeated back-and-forth corrections.

3. Towing Plans and Underhood Layout

Although the owner had not yet towed with the truck, he expected to use it during desert season with a motorcycle trailer. The expectation was that the diesel-powered Super Duty platform would tow far better than lighter off-road trucks. At the same time, the truck still had a few unfinished details, including an exhaust setup that was described as needing improvement and a differential cover that was clearly not ideal for the application.

Accessing the engine bay requires tilting the front end forward. Once opened, the layout reveals one of the packaging realities of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke: the engine bay is substantially wider than earlier trucks, reportedly by 6 to 8 inches, to accommodate the diesel. The charge-air cooler sits near the battery and uses a liquid-cooled system with its own water circuit, a notable feature of the factory induction arrangement.

4. Ram-Air Intake Upgrade

The first major Banks upgrade installed on the truck was the Ram-Air intake system. The stated goal was to improve airflow while drawing in the coolest air possible, particularly important in Arizona heat. Unlike some competing systems, this intake does not require relocating the battery. That packaging advantage matters on a truck whose engine bay is already crowded by the Power Stroke's cooling and induction hardware.

Banks also emphasizes the filter's dust-holding capacity. The truck is intended for desert use, so filtration and service interval matter as much as peak airflow. The larger filter is described as having significantly more dust capacity than stock, which supports sustained performance in off-road conditions where fine particulate loading can quickly overwhelm a smaller element.

5. Power and Driveline Modifications

Under the hood, the truck received a Derringer tuner. In this application, it is described as adding 60 horsepower and more than 100 lb-ft of torque. Those gains are especially relevant because the truck is trying to accelerate massive 46-inch tires and heavy wheel assemblies that place a substantial load on the drivetrain.

At the rear axle, Banks installed a Ram-Air differential cover. The reasoning is thermal management: the ring-and-pinion interface will generate significant heat while turning those oversized rotating masses, so keeping the Amsoil gear lube cool becomes important. The original flat-backed differential cover is criticized for promoting oil foaming rather than effective lubrication control. The Banks cover is presented as a solution intended to improve oil behavior and cooling under severe load.

The exhaust system was also upgraded with a 5-inch Monster Exhaust and Banks' patented SideKick tip. The explanation given is that reducing backpressure lowers the amount of energy the crankshaft must expend during the exhaust stroke, which in turn frees horsepower. On a heavy diesel truck with oversized tires, any reduction in pumping loss can help recover usable performance.

6. Cab Electronics and Throttle Control

Inside the cab, the truck was fitted with a PedalMonster throttle controller and dual iDash DataMonster displays. The PedalMonster is intended to sharpen throttle response and make the truck feel more immediate and controllable, while the iDash units serve as a dense instrumentation and evaluation package in a compact 52 mm format.

The iDash system is described as far more than a conventional gauge. It can display standard parameters such as temperatures and pressures, but it also supports customizable alerts and onboard data logging. Each gauge can record up to 100 parameters to a microSD card inserted beneath the Banks logo. Logged data can be reviewed directly on the gauge or exported to a laptop for later analysis. In practical terms, that makes the system useful not only for monitoring but also for validating future modifications.

7. Road Test with Derringer and Pedalmonster

After installation, the truck was road-tested with the Derringer set to level six. During the drive, the PedalMonster was initially in stock mode, then increased through city settings and later into more aggressive modes. The owner's reaction was immediate: the truck accelerated hard enough to push him back into the seat, despite being a 10,000-plus-pound vehicle on 46-inch tires.

A notable PedalMonster feature demonstrated during the test was its reverse behavior. When the truck was shifted into reverse, the controller automatically returned to stock pedal mapping. That prevents overly aggressive throttle response while backing up, which is particularly useful for trailer maneuvering. Once shifted back into drive, the system resumed the previously selected performance setting.

As the throttle sensitivity was increased further, the truck became even more responsive, to the point that it could spin the tires. The owner described the change as feeling like an additional 200 lb-ft of torque, even though that was an impression rather than a measured figure. His broader conclusion was that the improvement was not merely noticeable but obvious, transforming how drivable and lively the truck felt.

8. Idash Monitoring and Future Tuning

The dual iDash setup was then explored in more detail. Each display can be configured with five pages, and each page can show up to eight parameters, allowing a large amount of information to be monitored at once. The available data includes temperatures, pressures, boost, ambient air density, manifold air density, transmission slip, exhaust gas temperature, engine oil temperature, and engine coolant-related values.

Banks also highlights a set of engine-evaluation parameters described as exclusive to its system. The practical argument is that if the owner later changes the turbocharger, up-pipes, downpipes, or other engine hardware, the iDash can help determine whether the modification actually improved performance or simply wasted money. In that sense, the gauges are positioned as diagnostic and validation tools, not just displays.

By the end of the video, the owner's reaction is overwhelmingly positive. The combination of intake, tuning, exhaust, differential cooling, throttle control, and data instrumentation made the oversized diesel truck feel substantially stronger and more usable, while also giving him the tools to evaluate any future upgrades with real operating data.
